yeah, on my firend's civic EX, he had a separate ABS control unit sitting next to the engine ECU...

I'll probably send it off to Mark so that I can just use the stock harness with the haltech...He doesn't charge that much.

Yes please enlighten me. What reads the VSS? I have talked to others, and they say it can be done, but they don't know how it works.

As far as I know, the VSS does not ever connect to the ECU; it's read directly by the speedometer and associated electronics in the dash panel.

The ABS unit does not use the VSS sensor. It uses individual inductance wheel speed sensors for each wheel.

Dustin: I am talking about the VSS running the speedo.

Im a turbo newbie, I don't even have a turbo yet, Im just getting into the research stage now. I desided that I want a stand alone, Im just starting to understand the Hondata, that was what I was planning on using. Now you guys smack me in the face with Haltech!!!! What is the difference in the two, which do you guys think is better? What is the price of Haltech compaired to Hondata???
hondata is a relatively new company and haltech has been doing standalone engine managemnent systems for over 10 years(maybe more).. haltech is generally more expensive but it offers more options.. some people with OBD2 use haltech because they dont need to get a OBD1 ECU.. Hondata is great for its reputation for being simple, yet haltech is great for its reputation for just being flat-out-baddass but also complicated..

I think the VSS->gauge cluster connection is stand alone and the ECU just taps into it.

yeah, I thin kthe VSS just controls the speedo and the ECu taps into it like Dustin said. That's probably why vtec is disabled when the VSS is dead
