WTF? $1300 to install haltech?
WTF....a local shop is trying to charge me 1300 bucks to install a haltech system in my car. They said it's expensive because I'm using stock gauges and lighting. I think that's a rip off. That's without the haltech system and tuning too.

that's wat I'm saying, but this guy says that he installed Brent Rau's haltech and tuned it too. I always thought that Sean and the Extreme crew did...
Man, this thing is making me lean towards the Zdyne or hondata. Proably the Zdyne though, running a CRX now. Plug and play, but I'm worried it might not make my HP numbers that I want. 400whp with 15lbs of boost.....

This guy is bullsh!tting with you. There's no changes that need to be made for the stock gauges to work. Do you have a real old car or something?

Re: WTF? $1300 to install haltech? (VaporTrail)
Actually I asked if it was old because I've heard of problems with stock gauges and standalones on older Honda/Acura before. I don't have any more information than that, though. I think you'd have the same problem if you went Hondata. ZDyne would have to be your option.
I'm only going off of old information here, though. If anyone else has any info, please post it, but on every Honda/Acura I've ever seen the gauges and pretty much everything other than the engine is run off of seperate controllers. The only accessory you would have to worry about is the AC.

The EF's are easier thatn the newer cars...no ABS, no cruise control...none of that...all in the fuse panel.

Haltech is pretty easy to wire up anyways once you get the ignition working right. ABS, cruise, SRS, etc are all stand alone systems on the newer cars anyways... ecm is just exactly that.. engine only But you know all this.

No... you don't! Like Dustin said... ALL THOSE FUNCTIONS are controlled by separate systems. Stock ECU is shelved when you put a Haltech in.

Im a turbo newbie, I don't even have a turbo yet, Im just getting into the research stage now. I desided that I want a stand alone, Im just starting to understand the Hondata, that was what I was planning on using. Now you guys smack me in the face with Haltech!!!! What is the difference in the two, which do you guys think is better? What is the price of Haltech compaired to Hondata???

You have to leave the ABS control unit in the car and powered. ABS is not controlled by the ECM, it has its own computer.

Oh man, I missed all the good dialog. Really, the ECU controls only the engine and that's it. The AC only relies on the ECU to tell it wether the engine is under high load or not and if it's allowed to run. Everything else is run by seperate systems.
As for info on the Haltech, my install page gives some information and how the Haltech relates to the Hondata 4b.

Re: WTF? $1300 to install haltech? (Ubermensch)
find another place that will install for a reasonable price, then go back to that shop, flip him the bird and drive away as fast as you can!!!
