Default WRX Turbo

Hi, Im trying to piece together a turbo kit for my GS-R. Im thinking of getting a second hand turbo off a 99-01 wrx. Can I expect mid 13's with 3' full exhaust, 8psi, standalone and better injectors??

Also Can I expect high 12's with 10-12psi with this turbo????

that turbo is really small. It hardly has enough power for the wrx. I recommend looking at the mitsubishi line of turbos like a 16g, 18g, or 20g. They can be found used from the dsm guys for pretty cheap..and they are a good sized turbo.

Greddy uses the 18g in their GSR turbo kit!

With the mitsu turbo you can use a HKS turbo b-series exhaust manifold so the turbo will bolt right up. Since most of the mitsu turbos have internal wastegates you will not been to bother with a external like a tial or deltagate.

Then you can buy a greddy intercooler + piping kit (i sell them cheap email me liam@tiora.net) for around $700. Then the only thing left is fuel. FMU and you are done. You could do the whole kit for $1500 easy if you shop right.

good luck..

the US '02 WRX turbo is a TD04-13G. It's small, but is able to sustain 16-17psi of boost on a 2L till 7K rpms. I'd look into getting a TD05-16G or TD04-18T if you are going with a Mitsu turbo. The 13g has awesome midrange, but run out of steam on the top end (it should be as bad with a 1.8L). just look at the compressor map and judge for yourself.

[edit]ignore the ploted lines; they are for a 3L motor.

Hey guys, he's in aus. they get the real WRX there, hence him specifying the 99-01 (GC8) WRX. There are few if any people in the U.S. who know any details about these cars. I would suggest trying one of the uk boards, like scoobynet: http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/

I use one in my engine. Its the same turbo used in the JDM WRXs (280HP Spec) using the IHI RHF5 ballbearing turbo. I used to use a smaller TD05H mitsu turbo from an Evo 3, that thing was fun, but it didn't have any top end, the IHI comes on a bit slower, but pulls hard all the way to redline. I'd recommend it for a D16/B16A, for B18C and up, i'd recommend an IHI RHF55 or if you want bigger than that, an IHI RHF6. Check out IHI's website here: http://www.ihi-turbo.com - the site has compressor maps and all the information you could possibly want.

Ahem, Real WRX? Oh, you mean WRX STi I was about to say, I guess that $27K 13 second paperweight in front of the house is an illusion.

Anyway, there are MANY many turbos used on all models of turbo imprezas from the 13G, 16G, to VF30 (current MY02 WRX STi). just search the maps and pick the one that is right for you. Also, just FYI, you can get the '02 US WRX 13G turbo for about $275 with LOW (<2000) miles easily now.
