wideband
The further the O2 sensor is away from the combustion chamber the more of a delay there is going to be as far as the RPM and corresponding A/F. At high rpm's this isn't much of an issue and if tuning on an eddy current type dyno at various loads it isn't an issue either.
Oxygen sensors can be negatively affected by abnormally high EGT's too.

On the flip side of that, the closer it is the faster it will wear out. Keep is at least 9 in. away and before the cat.

I suggest getting two bungs. One that can be accessed easily by the tuner without jacking up the car. Generally this means before the oil pan about a foot from the turbine. The other one would go in the stock position incase you want to run a sensor all the time.
if you are putting it in another place othjer than your stock o2, with my AEM it said to be at least 18" from the turbine. if i remember.mine is in the stock b series location.
another question, on the 4 wire hookup for the gauge, theres a red white black and blue, i know where to hook the red and black obviosuly, but the white says to connect to any auxiliary unit that accepts a 0-5 volt input, where would i connect that and also the blue says to connect to a RS-232 com port for hyper-terminal data logging, now where would i connect those 2 wires to??

white wire is for the light in the guage, tap into your lights for the dashboard.
Blue wire......not sure, that would go to a hondata or AEM EMS for datalogging.
ps...most turbo instructions say 18" away from turbo for wideband placement.
I personally like right beside the stock O2 location.

about a foot or so down. Just make sure you don't put it in the 3, 6 or 9 o'clock position if the placement is going to be parallel to the ground.
You should be able to get the actual sensor from PLX, or even a VW dealer.
You need a Bosch LSU4/LSU4.2 Sensor.
