Since the all motors guys have a thread asking "why all motor"...

Why do you guys choose turbo over all motor?

say you got a... stock b18c1
thats 170hp at the crank stock

building that puppy to lets go...240 horse all motor takes a lot of work and parts
building it to withstand a turbo at 8-9psi on stock internals, adding injectors, fuel pump etc keeping it stock internal mayb give you, 50-70 horse depends on turbo size

its less work slightly and may end up being cheaper to reach the same power goal

thats my intepretation

300whp on a stock internal gsr is pretty easily attainable with the proper bolt ons and turbo with a good tune.

N/A doesn't put you back in your seat like a turbo, at least on our Honda's!

I personally have, one of my close friends had a built 320whp jetta I used to drive almost daily. It actually got old after about a month. Until this Dodge Ram tried to race and we left him by like a good 8 cars lmao. Winning all of the time just got kinda old, there's really no high horsepower cars around here. So if I personally was to go boost and had 300whp, it would more than likely be the fastest in my area, which sucks. =\

the motor is basically an air pump. the turbo makes it a more efficient air pump.

You just can't make the hp N/A like you can with a turbo.

More power for less money.

I've got a better question: Why not?

ok so i have built more than a few setups, both n/a and boosted. i personally like taking setups and chassis that nobody thinks are/can be fast and proving them wrong.

case and point
87 integra, stripped to ****, all motor d16a1, built head, cams, etc etc...went 13.0 @ 103. i took a ***** motor, and a bastard chassis and went fast with it. the motor rocked, no traction in 1st and 2nd on the street. but having a tin can race car on the street sucked *****.

89 civic 4dr, swapped in a dohc zc, basic bolt ons, and the bottle. went 13.3 on a 80 shot and street tires...full interior and sleeper as hell. great for dd'ing and the big power was there at the twist of the bottle.

93 civic 4dr, SOHC vitara/eagle block, stock everything else. i built the motor, and fabbed the turbo kit...made 405whp 315tq, went 11.43 @ 127 on slicks...again full interior, awesome dd'er. made big power from a tiny motor.

94 integra gsr 4dr, 81.5mm gsr motor, piston/rod block. i fabbed the turbo kit again, made 500hp and went 11.1 @ 130 on slicks, full interior, stereo and all. white knuckle ride for sure.

94 integra gsr 4dr, h2b, stock block h22, itr trans, with bolt ons and the bottle. (gsr motor dropped a valve so i put this together) so far i figure its around 195whp, went 14.6 @ 99 off the bottle and on street tires (spining bad in 1st and 2nd) i love the tq, instant throttle response of the big motor and short gears.

overall, from what ive learned...if you want a FAST car with all the creature comforts...turbo is where its at....even with a decent n/a motor and the bottle, i cant go as fast as i can with a piston/rod block turbo setup. if you want a responsive motor, instant throttle response...then n/a is for you...want to go decently fast? throw the bottle at it.

to say that one setup takes more engineering than another is stupid, you can cheap out on both setups, or mortgage the house on both. to say one is more reliable than the other is lame too...my SOHC turbo car didnt break a single part the entire time i owned it...not even so much as an axle.

in the end its preference...both have advantages, and both have trade-offs.

what a stupid thread, we go turbo cause we want to go fast, end of story. I have 340whp (and a lot more room) with 91 octane, you can't do that NA.

I have no prefrence NA or BOOST, i just want to go fast, i don't give a ****, i would slap on a roots blower if it made me go fast and i hate those things...
