Default Why NOT to buy a built used motor...

after he thinks he can pull a fast one, here is the result once my built GSR engine came, and yes i am getting it refunded.

1of3 stripped driver mount bolts
2of3 stripped intermediate shaft bolts
ALL the cam cap bolts overtightend so much the STRETCHED 1/4inch
Head studs Torqued over 85 foot lbs. Need to be ~62ft.lbs.
White gooey calcium like build up from inadequate water/water wetter use.
RTV used everywhere and HONDAS dont use that, they HAVE gaskets.
Oil pan has been dented greatly.
Excess loose glue in the block and oil pan from the sleeve job.

I am tired of typing. good night.

sorry, my camera blows, but if you look HARD enough, look at the threads on the 'bolt picture' and you can see right at the VERY end of the threads, right where the solid shaft of the bolt starts, the threads are spread out farther apart then should be and the radius in that area is thinner to show the bolt stretched out.

here is the white gooey build up in the coolant passages...

here shown is the stripped out threads for the driver motor mount...

i didnt have time to take pics of all the other stripped out ****... sorry

i would say the white residue isnt going to hurt anything. its not like it will make you overheat or anything. replace ad retorque the cam cap bolts and use some timeserts on the stripped out holes.

Seriously...get your money back if you can... I don't want to know what the internals (rod bolts etc.) look like if those are just the mount bolts.

as i took the pan off to inspect, the rod bolts were not even ARPs like told. They were the old school eagle brand fasteners on the rods. bah. Update tomorrow once i talk to him.

the head studs can be tightened to 85 ft lbs but its a little tight... I use 81 on mine and have never had a problem. it looks like it has copper spray on the headgasket. I would take off the rod and main caps and check the bearings while you have it out and do a leakdown test on an engine stand if you get stuck with it.

I would never buy a used motor unless it was bone stock. everytime I take apart a "built" block I always find ****.

not yet, paypal wont give me money soon enough IF i even win. I took the head off, replacing the HG with NO copper this time, clean the head and face of the block deck, RE torque to SPEC, ordered new water pump and cam caps real cheap also. So after this and a few Helicoils, should be swell Just needs some TLC.

did a leakdown... 8% all the way across
