Why don't we see more SOHC's boosted?
i saw that post by someone here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=250867 and running 12's in SOHC which aint too bad IMO. im speaking for those who have a SOHC. why do a swap for 2300+ when you can acheive good power with a d-series. building a SOHC sounds like the route im gonna take. i just wish my d16 non vtec didn't have 100,000 miles on it.

got my kit and installed it last week. took 6-7 hrs with friends and then spent the night makin sure everything was perfect. just gotta throw in a BOV and IC and MBC to complete the package.
customability, keep powersteering and A/C, low cost... gotta love the greddy

All the talk abot the greddy kit got me thinking... If I can find just a greddy turbo mani, can I toss just abotu any turbo on there and still retain AC? that would be so nice... I kinda doubt it tho... even If I bought the whole kit (which there is no way I will) bc it will be going on a GSR motor in a 2nd gen CRX.

because people like to say they have a Hybrid or DOHC (pronounced DOCK in ricerese)
being a student, I don't earn enough money to do a swap AND boost my car, so I'd rather boost what I have and be ahead of the game.

With that setup you can run higher than 10 psi easy. I know guys pushing 12 psi on motors with 100k+ miles and stock internals.

you can take a stock gsr and make the same amount of power then with a built sohc. i know there are a few exceptions but not many.

Re: Why don't we see more SOHC's boosted? (bretx0r)
Yeah but I think he's talking about a turbo'd stock GSR motor. If not, he better wake up because Hondas are not fast no matter what without nitrous or a turbo.
Maybe I'm spoiled from building "old sk00l" motors that put down 400+ HP plus an extra 150 on juice (and not that there aren't faster guys out there, but these were always my daily drivers). I know there are a lot of people out there that think a Civic with an ITR motor is fast as ****, but it's not. That's just the best thing a lot of the "new generation" has experienced.
SOHC all the way ... no reason and no money to swap.

Re: Why don't we see more SOHC's boosted? (CovertFI)
Well, if you say so. 300 is really easy with a built SOHC, and I don't think you'll see more than 270 on a stock GSR at reasonable boost levels. I was looking at going B18B but it's not worth the money IMO.
I can build a 350-400 HP SOHC with no problems for half of what a stock swap + turbo costs for a B series. It's just a hobby, I'm not out there for money or slips and I'm already married so I don't try to use my car to pick up chicks....so I have to make my money go as far as possible.

Re: Why don't we see more SOHC's boosted? (FDragger)
And I'd like to know where you're getting a complete GSR swap for $3000...more like $3500+ and then shipping, and turbo too for $3000, not really unless you buy a Drag and use all the junk crap like FMU/Deltagate etc...but anyway, look....
Custom turbo, 2000-3000 depending on how you do it, including 3" exhaust
Build SOHC shortblock - approx 1500 for the whole deal.
Not exactly half if you could do the swap + turbo for $6000, but I don't think you could anyway.
A D16Y8 running a T3/4 at 20+ PSI is going to run pretty f'n strong, eh?
Needless to say you also need a standalone, but you really need one regardless if you're running a turbo on a Honda....even though I can't afford one yet
