who's boosting a SOHC VTEC?
Hey uh, I am considering boosting my SOHC instead of doing a b-series motor swap. Dollar for dollar I know the turbo is more bang for the buck and I have experience boosting so reliability and risk are controlled factors.
I wanted to get some feedback from people who are running this set up and maybe some ETs if you've got em. What kind of boost are you guys running and what is your set up like?
Thanks in advance, Matt

Yeah, VTC_CIVIC has some great numbers and times too, and so do a lot of guys here. I just got my kit on a couple weeks ago and I like it a lot. On a budget, I think its a great buy. I know I can at least hang with Si's w/basics. This is just with the Greddy TD04 kit on a 1999 EX. My Type-s BOV is getting welded tomorrow! But, my intercooler still hasn't arrived. Just to warn you, once you start, its gets addicting and now I've spent a lot more than I originally planned to...hondata....ahhhh....

Re: who's boosting a SOHC VTEC? (turbod16y8)
I've been boosting 8lbs daily and 10lbs occasionally on bone stock internals(no rods, pistons, nothing) since june of '00. Most of that time was without the aid of an inline pump, which I only got in last month. I had been running pretty lean all that time, but didn't know it since I only recently got my A/F meter working. Now, with the pump, I'm slightly rich under full boost.

I swear you must have been reading my mind... I was just hitting up the FI forum to post the EXACT SAME TOPIC... a roll call for boosted sohc's. I've seen VTC Civic's setup but I wanted to see who else was boosting their SOHC's and the experiences with them. Right now I'm looking at the greddy kit. Most likely will be my choice since it's pretty streetable. I just wanted to know about some of the difficulties that people boosting sohc's might have run into that might be consistent with all the D-series or any other useful tips, etc.

I have run a boosted sohc for a while now and have blown up a few along the way. The most i can say NOT to do is detinate...with a sohc they break pistons really easy. What i can sya TO do is run good fuel management. Good fuel managenment means engine life.

I have been boosting my SOHC at 8-10psi with Hondata for about a month. I love the feeling when it hits full boost and I struggle to hold the steering wheel straight!

I have a 93 si with 200,000 on it and run a jrsc for over 2 years. Love it now it's time to move up past 6pounds, but like everyone else is saying you have to have it tuned right with the fuel right or bye bye motor. I runnig high 14's in the 1/4 not to bad for full load down not gutted for racing.

Re: who's boosting a SOHC VTEC? (glagola1)
I have been reading here that most with the sohc are running the greddy kit.
I want to if any are looking or using the Apex'i kit on the sohc? I under stand that the apex'i cost more then the greddy kit.
I am looking to take off my nitrous kit and installing a turbo kit.
Car is a 2000 ex.. , I already have ignition, cap, coil, wires and fuel setup (aem fpr, fuel rail, fuel pump) from nitrous setup.
I am looking at either turbo'ing the sohc or swapping in a B16 and keeping the nitrous. What do you guys say? I am looking to be simple with this.
Comments/ Suggestions????

Re: who's boosting a SOHC VTEC? (Midwestrider)
I have the D16Z6 92-95 ex VTEC motor w/ my Apex'i turbo.
Only been runnning the turbo for 4days now but at 3psi, I am beesting strongly on b16 si civics and they cannot catch up.
I was told with a boost controller and an intercooler, I can efficiently run 15psi
I may have to start keeping spare undees in the car just in case. lol

Re: who's boosting a SOHC VTEC? (CivicRyda2k)
I've had the greddy kit on a ZC with a Zdyne SECU and it was pretty good but the turbo ran out of breath in the higher revs. I was looking at the Drag Gen2 kit. It looks really sweet and I know that I want a bigger turbo that I could transplant to a b-series motor someday. I think I'll want to go with a t3/t4.
I just can't find any good b16s for cheap and I need power now.
