anyone know if a gear based boost controller is worth it? what brands make them or come as a option?

Im not 100% sure but im guessing its based off mph @ a certain rpm.

Ya, if you get the PowerMeter-iD add-on. It actually reads it off your speed sensors so it's speed dependant boost, in block ranges - which is like gear dependant boost.

I'm pretty sure it runs from your clutch switch, and turbo smart has a gear based boost crontroller i just bought one haven't put it on yet .

Yea, every time the gear selection wire on the Innovative MSBC sees 12V+ it brings you up on your next stage of boost. If it's on a street car (where the clutch switch is still working as it did from the factory) I normally just use a relay to reverse the polarity and you're set.

So on the street does the innovative work very well. It seems it would have no idea if you are clutching for an upshift or downshift and therefore not sett correct boost levels for the corresponding gear

Re: (g2turbo)
There actually is a street setting on it but we never use it. We normally just turn down the 5th gear (last setting) boost level and let it stay there if you want to race someone on the street and need traction. You can manually select a gear too so if you want to do a roll on in say third then increase 4th and 5th you can do that too. I think it's more fun to just run full boost all the time and light up 5th tho

has anyone done this yet? thats a cool idea.

Re: (DIRep972)
I am trying to find the right gera based controller.
You say the Innovative works on cluthc switch. The Hondalogger can display what gear the car is in. Can the Innovative tap into this wire ( i am assuming it is on the trans somehwere) and use it for gear selection?? I would think the clutch switch would give problems driving daily. Wrong stage, 10 psi in 4 th gear, etc....

that makes sence and it should work.. unless its possible to tap into how ecu reads what gear it is in.

Re: (DIRep972)
If Court (uglyasscivic) hasn't changed his setup I'm pretty sure he's still running his with a dual stage triggered by Hondata. It does work well tho unless you're making extremely high horsepower then ramping is also a nice feature to have. As for the gear selection there's really not anyway that I know of, atleast right now to tap into the tranny and to know what gear you're in. I'm sure it is possible as you could just run a series of switches off the interlock or forks but the Hondalogger works off of your rpm/mph and calculates which gear you are in. A manual transmission Honda and ECU do not interpret any signal nor do any calculations to know what gear you are in from the factory. The one switch that is used is for the reverse lights and doesn't tie into the ECU in anyway. You would have to design something like this which wouldn't be too hard then have outputs to a relay. The problem here is if you're working with the Innovative MSBC it only goes up everytime it is hit with 12V+. You'd need a boost controller designed to toggle both up and down from your calculated gear.
