Who is boosted and running a chipped ECU?
I'm putting together a turbo kit (94 Civic EX) and want to be boosting in a few months. I'm researching my options as far as management goes. Standalone is not gonna be practical for me and I dont want to run FMU, so i'm looking at either:
Chipping my own ECU
OR
AFC hack
Anyone on here doing their own ECU chipping for a boosted car? Do you have any PROS, and CONS? Are you glad you did it? How much have you spent on your management setup (burner etc)?
There is a boost editor on the pgmfi site and I'll probably use that for my car when it comes time.
Thanks!

I'm trying to make my mind up on what Programmer route to go with. I could DIY for $10-$15 (found instructions) but would only be able to burn 27c256 chips. OR I'm thinking of buying an assembled Willams unit for around $60 that would let me burn just about anything.
Budget is a big concern for my situation. Right now the only thing I plan to use this for is my cars ECU. So does that leave any reason to buy the Willams unit?

I picked up the same burner... It's good. I highly recommend burning with the AT29C256. This way you can burn and reburn. I am still learning so this is perfect for me.. Good LUck..

Chip it so you can tune for fuel and timing.

I've had success with the same chip in my brothers car.
Uberdata + Wideband = bliss.

I heard he moved in with falcongsr so he can have lots of mansex.
... and $10-15 for a chip burner? Please. If your bios chip can be removed with your computer running, you can burn 29C256 for free... most NIC cards with allocations for a PROM will allow you to do the same.

It's pretty simple to reflash your bios, I'd imagine any number of people on here have done so. The trick is making sure your computer doesn't shut down when you try to hot swap the bios chip (lots don't, bios is only used on start up).
As far as the NIC burner:

How would I use one of those NIC's to burn Eproms? Those cards can be found for dirt cheap. i'm new at this though so dont know if i'd be better off with the Willems unit I was gonna get or a NIC.
I'm not stupid, I do learn fast. I'm asking because its new material to me.
Thanks!
