Re: white smoke from down pipe (whyspeed432)
it's just your turbo seals braking it, it's %100 normal, run the car for about 30 mins to 1 hour, if it keeps on smoking it could be a problem, does the smoke smell, or have a liquid that comes out of the downpipe

It could also be a problem with oil being pushed past the seals. A simple restrictor valve would fix that problem.

No if your oil seals are causing a problem you will get "black" smoke from your tailpipe. White smoke is from coolant most likely caused by a head gasket. To accurately diagnose this do a leak down test. Turbo seals do not require a break in, but manufacturers require holding the turbo shaft with your hand (prior to starting and only at idle) and letting the engine run so oil can go through the turbo system. Or you can just disconnect you dizzy and crank it over a few times to get the oil flowing. I would recommend reading turbo systems by bell to get a better understanding on the matter.

Sorry about previous post, blue smoke instead of black smoke.
blue = oil
white = coolant
black = fuel ratio to rich
kink in return line can definately be a major issue.

Yeah, it's probably the kink in the your return line...happened to me also. If you search around for white smoke in the archived forced induction forum you'll see this problem come up a lot! Someone always chimes in thinking it's the headgasket, but the majority of the time that's not the issue.

oil doesn't always have to show up at the tailpipe blue, it can be white also
in my case it was the ringlands completely breaking, and it was white

Re: white smoke from down pipe (whyspeed432)
my friend just installed his turbo and he was almost done with it but he forgot to put the throttle body back on and he started the car with no throttle body, it started revving and it hit the rev limiter and stuff, according to him he said it was running 3-4 seconds. then later on the downpipe was blowing out a lot of white smoke so we thought its the head gasket, changed the head gasket and its still doing the same thing but maybe less white smoke. a lot of white smoke come out when he gas it and even at idle, it smoked up his whole garage. we changed the head gasket and we did a compression test, it had about 165-180 all across the board. do anyone know what else could be the problem? were gonna do a leakdown test on the motor tomorrow and if it gets good # were gonna take out the turbo and put it back to stock to troubleshoot it. By chance do anyone know what else might be messed up? or did i basicly narrow it down?

Re: white smoke from down pipe (dustin)
yes...my turbo seals just recently blew
white smoke, with some blue smoke under load......the white smoke is not always connected with the headgasket....i would definately fix your drain line......you want no restrictions there
