where to put BOV
i was just curious as to where a BOV should be placed. I here some people say after the IC near the TB, and some say b4 the IC closer to the turbo side... does it make any difference??

mine is behind the front bumper vent where a filter for a cai would be. i just found a small k&n filter to put on it so it wouldn't suck any thing up while in vacuum. i used my cai as my upper charge pipe and didn't want to weld into that and my bov mount was steel and couldn't weld that to aluminum anyway. works just fine this way.

Also
Dont pay any attn to where the Vaccum line is on the BOV in the pic. Wasnt hooked up yet LOL. Its on the FPR right now

It is usually easier to mount the BOV to the charge pipe just before the throttle body. If you wanted to go into more work you could do something like mounting the BOV right to the intercooler endtank. However, it makes things more cramped under the hood like I have it here.

Re: where to put BOV (JDMB16ACRX)
so does the placement of where the BOV make any difference then? i see that most have it on the pipe leading to the TB.

I've wondered this too. Any difference at all where it is on the intake pipe?

Yea, you're right....I was gonna joke around if someone asked and say that the cardboard helps with my winter warm-ups.
I am still doing some tack welding on a new DP. I didn't want to damage the fins while working.

I have mine maybe a foot away from the tb. There's lots of opinions as to the ideal location of the bov, but the way I see it, as long as its somewhere on the charge piping, your turbo's gonna be safe. I'd say mount it wherever you want.

I have some reasoning, but I'm not gonna say much until I get some testing time with this set-up. Mounting the BOV near the Tbody still does the job though.

Re: where to put BOV (SLPR)
it looks like u mounted yours closer to the turbo side...if i'm correct.
is there any pressure drop as the charged air flows from the turbine? For example there's more pressure closer to the turbo than there is at the tb? or no? Just a thought?

what i always thought was that with it near the TB you still have some air in the IC pipeing and IC to cool down, and also help with the lag since less air to fill up
but then if the BOV is before the IC then only the higher pressure air from the turbo will be pushed out instead of the air in the piping.
ok im confused again

Re: where to put BOV (0x64)
i'm still confused as well... as to whether placing it b4 the IC (in some cases directly ON the IC, but still on the turbo side), or after the IC will make some sort of difference...hmmmmmmm *puts on thinking cap*

Re: where to put BOV (JDMB16ACRX)
i'm pretty sure you want it as close to the throttle body as possible since when the throttle is closed, there will be a shockwave hitting it and it's going to try to flow back toward the turbo. so you want the bov as close to the tb as possible to catch this shockwave as possible. but thats my .02.

Re: where to put BOV (sparky69)
i think it does not matter i would put it right B4 the I/C because the "faster" air is being pushed by the turbo so right after it would be good since when if blow's off it just send out the extra pressure and the rest of the piping still has air so it can breath my.02 has been added

ok another thought...
with the BOV by the TB the piping and IC are able to fill up to capacity even with the BOV open. This is due to the turbo always spinning thus always pulling in air into the pipes.
so my theory being this, with the turbo always spinning its always bringing in fresh air to fill up the area and once its full it begins to spill out into the open BOV, but once the BOV closes the air still moving just continues through the TB. Now if the BOV was by the turbo the air after the BOV is stagnant and idle, once the BOV closes it suddenly creates a sudden pulse of air thus creating turbulance and not getting ideal flow.
does this make sense to anyone else or am i just full of it?

Re: (crazychickenhead)
It should be as close as possible to the TB plate and should be a smooth transition from the charge piping to maximize smooth airflow.

Yes, that is where my BOV is mounted.
