Default where to get a motor built this winter

cliff notes : where to get a motor built?

i have been reading the forum for a couple months now and finally decided to get my own account. anyways, i am from south dakota and street driving in my turbo gsr civic is kinda dangerous. so i decided to get a winter car and work on the beast. so i was wondering, what suggestions everyone had with where to get a motor built? i have searched and seen some good and bad posts about a lot or places, so can i get some opinions please??? i currently have a stock block, stock head with a airresearch t3 (might upgrade to t3/t4e this winter too, $$$ depending). i am definitely planning on pistons and rods for sure, maybe get the block sleeved to 84.5mm. so those of you with built motor, can you please reply with your experiences, setups, and costs. thanks in advance!!!

Viren, do you build the motors your self there at VS Racing? What kind of tools do you use to measure bore and piston size and crank bearing clearances?

Yes,

we measure the gap with a feelguage testing by following these steps
Test the upper limit of ring travel with the feeler guage then the lower limit and measure that and verify in the piston to wall clearance is in spec compared to what was given.

We match the piston to each cyl. some pistons are not true in there sizing. We select 4 pistons and place them before we bore the cyl to match. We plastiguage the clearances on the bearings and check and verify the deck height. Alot of customers blocks are coming back wiht deck heights that exceed manufacture tolerances for factory head gasket height. we reccommend usuing a .048 gasket on most motors since most of them have been decked.

We also insepct the bushings in the rods themselves. The eagle rods have weak bushings when installed improperly. We have been seeing a few customers come back to us to fix there motors. The bushing on there rods were fucked up .

we use also many micrometer to check everyhting out .

Viren, do you build the motors your self? Also...you only use plastigauge to measure bearing clearance? You dont use pro tools like a snap gauge to measure maincap and rod bearing to crank clearances?

There is no reason to go such big bore. Your car is turbo, you make your power and torqe with the turbo, not so much the bore. EVERYONE needs to realise your much better keeping your walls thick and running more boost. If you bored it out that much, what happens if you hurt a wall or a piston? Say goodbye to your brand new sleeved block cause you cant bore it out anymore. Why not get more life out of your sleeves?

Default Viren.

The only other person I would trust to assemble my shorty besides myself would be Viren. His proof is in the pudding.

PS Earl/Mike have some proof in the pudding too

First person that contacts me that needs a motor built, I will do it for pocket change with the person paying for the parts involved.

PS...this is only if the person wants to do it right to my HIGH standards of what a motor should be built like.

I would go with 83 mm bore.
