thank you very much

Just to let you know...minus the flanges im up to $73.22 From the site above.

1 2 EA 45605K625 304L Stainless Steel Butt-Weld Pipe Fitting 1-1/2" Pipe Size, Tee, Schedule 40 $13.75
EA $27.50 in the morning
2 2 EA 45605K515 304L Stainless Steel Butt-Weld Pipe Fitting 1-1/2" Pipe Size, 90 Deg Elbow, Schedule 40 $5.89
EA $11.78 in the morning
3 1 EA 2706A4 Premium Tube Cutter 1/4" To 1-5/8" Tube OD, 6" Open and Closed Length $33.94
EA $33.94 in the morning

Merchandise Total: $73.22

You will only need to buy the tube cutter once...so minus $34 for that and thats how much it costs for the steel of a tube style manifold.

i don tthink the tube cutter is gonna help you worth crap in cutting that **** .. its THICK !!! .. i go through 2 blades on the sawzall trying to cut thru that ****.

oh yeah. and to make the " collector" for it . if you cant cut it like how maxrev does. take a square metal tube thats 2X3 and get a 2 inch hole saw and run it thru the tube, and weld the flange to that.

dont buy stainless if you are gonna weld it together, get it coated w/somethin that can withstand weather or look good

that makes sense...why dont you tell cody that and everyone else that makes their own manifolds...b/c im pretty sure everyone either makes it w/ stainless or weather paints it...and i prefer stainless....

its jsut cuz stainless is hard to get penetrated with MIG, with tig its no problem. but with MIG its a different ball game. i made a manifold with a mig welder though, stainless, wasnt hard to weld at all. and its been running for about a year now.

if you are gonna use stainless make sure you use the right welding metal, and polish it nice before you weld, the reason i would not use stainless is because of the way the material bends under high heat after its installed
a lot of manifolds that crack at the joins use stainless core elbows with mild steel wire... they look good until they break
find out exactly what the grade of metal is in the elbows, because 2 different types of metals will expand at different rates and cause high stress on the joints

personally getting mild steel and then completing it nicely is more fun to me, and it can be finished w/a nice coat of ceramic, possibly a shiny base, all depends on skill

Use a higher nickle wire and you will be fine. But it will be a PITA to get good weld penetration into the flanges (assuming you are using 1/2" steel flanges). Try pre-heating the flanges in the oven before welding, it can help.
I would still coat the manifold (reguardless of SS) with Jet-Hot or similar. The flanges will rust after awhile and the coating will help lower under hood temps.

Figure $90-100 for the flanges then add the cost of the SS fittings, material costs are not much to make a turbo manifold. It is the welding skill and fabrication that you pay for with a pre-built unit. TIG takes many hours of practice to get the strong and pretty welds.
