When to stop boosting .....
I have a bone stock JDM 96 B20B 8.8 ratio... with dsm 450's and a zdyne gold computer with a 255 hp fuel pump and base fp is set at 60... right now im hitting from about 10.8-11.5 psi and not a sign of weakness in the tune yet.... just raced a fast talon today and did a 5th gear pull till 6800-6900 at 11.5 psi and it didnt break or anything. Should i stop here or try to pull a little more out of the car this year ... ( I run min. of 94 octane usually 104-108 ) Just need some info from people who have a great running tune and havent messed stuff up how far should i push it because people seem to push upwards of 20 psi on stock blocks thanks alot guys
o yeah ran 13.2 at 110 mph on shitty 14 inch tires ....

5th gear boosting thru the redline eh? You're pretty brave man!! The EGT's skyrocket boosting that high a gear for so long, a pretty good invitation for detonation without a precise tune, but hey if it's working for you..
thats what i mean i did the most stressfull thing to it and it still took it like a biznatch i just see people on here running 1 bar and stuff on stock motors and wanted to see peoples stories pro/con and such thanks for the input though
I've been to about 7k rpm in 5th on my LS tranny...162 mph woot
but my friend chickened out and said stop...I still had 700 rpm to go.
still running well
edit: my block is built btw forgot to mention that.

Yea, I ran alot of boost on a stock single cam too.. but I didn't push it through 5th!!
Think about the pressure/heat in those cylinders, and think of the time spent accelerating through 5th. Think now how immensely hot the surface edges of the pistons, the valves, and spark plug must have been when you wound out 5th with 11 or 12psi. Not to mention the common thought is tha B20 sleeves are a little shady to begin with.. I mean like I said, if it worked for you then
But me personally, I think I'd rather have a sleeved block and forged slugs in there for boosting that much, but that's just me

Don't you guys think that boosting in fifth would depend on how the engine is tuned? I mean, an engine boosting in fifth with an aggresive timing and fuel curve would certainly cause more thermal stress than an engine tuned with a very rich and conservative timing curve correct? As long as the egts stay within a constant safe zone during that time, do you think it would still be a bad idea?

for Foozball26 and Highmilehatch for understanding the tuned part.. im tuned at 11.0-11.5 ratio with about 4.5-5 degree timing retard at full boost so its not that aggressive. Keep the info coming guys also have full OBD0 datalogging
