Default What's up with that....

Has anyone else ever had this problem before? I drive a 93' Civic 1.6 w/ a Greddy turbo. It keeps burning up oil dipsticks, melts all the plastic off the ring and thens melts the seal away. I don't think the header has a crack in it but, it gets really hot in the engine bay. Also the hood gets really black, from exhaust, I believe the manifold gasket is bad. Any idea's?

Make sure your dipstik tube isn't touching the manifold, I had the same prob on my car. If not get yourself an str dipstick or billetdipstick. All metal, no plastic burning, problem solved.

The dipstick isn't touching the manifold, that was the fiirst thing I checked. Is the STR dipstick all aluminum even at the seal?

does that kit have a heatshield over the manifold? My friend had the same problem on his Greddy GSR kit, the heatshield was holding in all the heat and it was melting the dipstick.

Yea it does. I used to run without the heat-sheild and the engine compartment got really hot. The strange thing is it has started doing this lately, and I have it on the car for almost a year.

Billet aluminum dipstick.... damn, how long do you have to wait for that to cool down before you can check your oil?
