Whats this called? Is it helpfull?
I was wondering what the thing is called in the following picture, its located under the right headlight,, the hole.. i know the purpose for it but is it actually that helpful?

Its probably just sucking up cold air to the engine compartment. Without seeing what its truly doing who knows why a VW owner would put such a thing like that there. LOL maybe its a horn... After all it IS a VW

That is called a velocity stack, very popular on ITB setups and motorcycles. Also popular with the local ricers in my area that swear it gives them 70hp.
