What turbo for STREET b18c1? t3 or t3/t04? Other?
Right now I have a stock b18c1 in a CRX with a J1 tranny. I have never been to the track nor do I plan to...that being said: I'd like to know what would be an ideal turbo for STREET ONLY use?
https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1
I read 9 of those pages and made a bunch of notes for myself as to turbo size, trim, HP, and fuel management....looks like most people are runing t3/t04's .57 are over 300 HP and the few t28's are 250ish...but it looks like all those are set up for track use, not daily street use. I'm leaning more toward the t3(saab?) becasue I think this would be better suited to what I want: quick spool, power to 7000-7500 RPM's. Could I reach my goals with a t3 or would I better suited to go with a T3/T4?
I feel a bit overwhelmed by sizes and numbers right now. I just want to get the right sized turbo, help!
Cliff notes:
Engine: stock b18c1
Street not strip
power to 7.5k
6-8lbs boost
NO specific HP goal
uberdata management

how much whp are you looking to get? if your going with a straight T3 either get a T3. 48/60 but i'm not sure if that'll pull all the way to redline on a GSR so maybe the .60/.63. But, anything more then 300whp and i'd look into a T3/T04E variant.

t3/t04e right now with a street tune.. running great on 7psi. Step on it in 2nd and it lights em up when it hits full boost.

7000-7500 you won't like trust me... You want a turbo that will pull till redline 8000 or a little over. If you only want to spend $2-300 try finding a used .57 t3/t4 on ebay make sure their feedback is good!!! otherwise get a disco potato gt28rs and you'll have crazy spool if money isnt a problem. Silly kids... anything over 275hp is gonna spin like crazy so be prepared... You might want to go all motor.

thats the link to mine and its on the limit of street use...

A .57 trim t4/t04e with a 50 ar on the intake and 63 on the exhaust will spool pretty quick in a gsr, they are common turbos and you will enjoy it.
A straight T3 (even a 60/63) is really to small for a high revving B but they work great on a D.
Just my .02

The smaller turbo will put more wear and tear on your motor since you will be boosting more due to the lower rpm spool. It is ultimately up to you but the t3/t04e turbo is good, also the sc61 turbos are very good.

How quick?...(I know ather factors affect exact spool time, I'm looking for an estimate)

On my 9:1 B16 with GSR cams and 18 degrees total timing, 3 inch DP and 3 inch to a Vibrant muffler, it will start to build boost by 35-3600 rpms and will be passing through 10-12 lbs at 4500 and 17 by 5k. I really like the quick responce on a downshift as well.

And the cylinder pressures will be nowhere close to each other between a t3 and an SC61. That logic is way off.

I don't think I understand that statement. The larger turbo will make the same cylinder pressure at a lower boost level with a cooler charge making the same amount of power safer than a smaller turbo running higher boost.
Unless you are running a turbo so large at such a low boost level you are on the choke line.

I guess it depends on how much boost you are running with each turbo. But I guess my real point was that a larger turbo isn't going to be any easier on the motor, but he also stated he wanted a streetable car and a SC61 isn't exactly the prime choice for that. ?
