Default What size T3 on a D16Z6?

Like the title says. I'm looking at garret T3 turbos and was wondering which one would be better for around 7 to 10 pounds of boost on a D16Z6. .60 on the compressor side and .48 on the turbine side or .42 on the compressor side and .48 on turbine side. Like I said it will be run on a stock D16Z6 and for fmu will prolly have 440 ingectors bigger fuel pump and the AFC hack. Also I am prolly gonna get it externally wastegate, and a drag manifold will I have any clearence issues with the A.C or PS?

t3 60 trim with .48 turbine ...ive made some really great numbers so far, the turbo spools decent and pulls to redline+ the higher it revs the harder it pulls....Its a beautiful thing

Wow your numbers are really good. Only at 6 psi right. What else do you have on your setup?

I have a T3 with .63 a/r turbine and 50 trim .42 a/r cold side. I ported both the compressor cover and the WG housing. It pulls pretty hard from 3000 to 7500. starts spooling around 2500. Stainless tubular manifold and 2.5" DP

I still use the stock cat and Si exhaust unfortunately, full 2.5 exhaust coming soon . It runs about a 14.0 i would say, @ 7psi. I can beat newer GT mustangs even from a dig, they run about a 14 flat.

It is noticeably faster then my T25 @ 8-9 setup which ran a 14.5 approx. I have major traction issues in 1st and 2nd and 3rd coming out of corners faster than 60 or so.

What kind of manifold and downpipes are you guys using. Are you able to retain your AC and PS with them

i run afc hack w/ 450's and use ecu program to pull timing in boost, dsm sidemount, 2" ic piping into ic, after ic goes into 2.5" aem upper ic pipe...i use 2" custom dp into a thermal exhaust... no a/c ditched that years ago, ..im using an equal length manifold that has been modified to keep from cracking (my dad is a welder), tial 38mm w/ 6psi spring, srp pistons, eagle rods, zex cam and springs, very mild p&p, competition valve job, 8.5:1 compression, fidenza cam gear 2 degrees advanced and my base ignition timing is 22 degrees advanced, runs great...no knock.....its all working very well and is only getting better im now running 10psi and after some tinkering with the new turbo edit program i hope to get to the dyno again in march

So does anybody know what manifold and downpipe to use, and I want to keep my AC and PS and don't want to have to shave anything off my block or turbo.

I think I am going with this turbo. Any comments.

.42 a/r 60 trim compressor will be awesome. no need to go bigger for a street setup IMO.

I don't know a thing about AC and PS. they don't go with a turbo in my book.

http://www.homemadeturbo.com/f...15029

My car ran 14.6@94mph with a ghetto turbo kit ( details above )... I have a .60/.63 that I was going to swap on after the TD04L-13T WRX turbo, but to be honest I think I can get into the mid-13s with the WRX turbo that spools almost instantly with a stock 1'' exhuast...

The .42/.48 is bigger than my wrx turbo and if I can get a full weight H/B into the 13's with a "MUCH smaller than T3" turbo, I can't imagine the need for a 60-trim compressor ( the DSM guys are only using 50-57trims !!! )...

I was thinking about making a .42/.63 T3 by combining a older volvo compressor with my SVO turbos exhuast side...

I'm having a hard time b/c the "little" TD04l-13T is kicking *** and unless I wanna run 12's, it just doesn't make sense to swap on a bigger turbo... I beat a 97' Trans-am from a 2nd gear roll all the way to 110mph ( I "let out" before I shifted into 5th and gained about 2 cars !! ), so top end can't be suffering too bad....

If you guys could see the car, and the set-up, you'd understand why I'm saying this stuff... Ghetto has hell... You guys are talking about custom manifolds and exturnal wastegates... I just don't see the need... a 13sec honda that is just SWEET to drive on the street isn't a bad thing.... And even though 12's on a stock blocked SOHC isn't "unthinkable" its not something I'd want ( basiclly a time bomb )...

BTW Selling my SVO turbo for $195 shipped... rebuilt by garrett 1000 miles ago and has no housing cracks, perfect for anyone wanting to runs 13's very easily ( with a fair amount of lag ) or run 12's/ lower.. Comes with wastegate and air filter attachment thingy ( email me for pics ).

Another option is to just go with the greddy kit. They can make the power with the right combo of parts. That way you get to keep your ac and ps. You can find used kits for great deals. I will be running my car this sunday and should see mid 12's. Thats fast enough for me on the street and i still average 32mpg.

hunchback your right. Small turbos are nice for inexpensive street setups. My old setup was an HF manifold with a small T25 (smaller than DSM t25). It was quick and i'm sure I could have hit mid 13s with it. My new turbo is the T3 i mentioned above (.63turbine 50trim .42 comp) is a volvo/saab hybrid LOL. I gotta say the way the T3 pulls is far more satisfying than the t25 and i'm sure it can make a bit more power. basicly I would suggest going with a little bit bigger turbo even for a street car. I don't think a 60trim t3 is too big. I wish I had one, but for $50 i can't complain.

Hey teal do you know this from personal experience? Would you have to shave the block at all to make either of these fit?

i know for a fact the maxrev setup does because I run it. So does greddy. You could always have a shop custom make a downpipe after you choose a mani.
