What is more important in a FI setup: Rods or Pistons?
Or put it another way, which is the weaker of the two in a stock B18C1 motor?
I think the piston (specifically the ring lands on the stock piston) is the first thing to break.
Thinking of doing a budget build up, 12psi, with just pistons and cylinder brace.

budget (new pistons included) + about $350 for eagles.

****, its only 350, rods are one of the cheapest/best things you can buy for your FI car. WELL worth the extra money IMO!!!

likewise, at least due to boost. I have seen them due to over reving and hydro locking though

ya, but they also cant turn the boost up like they want to, you dont want to buy new pistons, boost love it, turn it up more, break a rod and need to spend a whole lot mor on new rods, pistons, block, crank, etc...
