Default What exactly is dumptube for?

What is the exact purpose of the wastegate dumptube? I know some people have it and some people don't. All my friends with turbo don't have a dumptube. I'm guessing if it was really beneficial then everybody would have one. So what is the benefit of running a dumptube off the wastegate?

The dumptube is just used to redirect exhaust coming out of the wastegate so it doesn't burn/dirty stuff in your engine bay.

So it doesn't affect anything performance wise? It's just to send the gases down and out?

If you have an external wastegate without a dump tube, that 1450 degree exhaust spewing out at seriously high velocity is guaranteed to murder something in your engine bay. Are you sure your friends don't have turbos with internal wastegates? On internally wastegated turbos, the WG is in a different spot, making it easier to integrate the "dump tube" back into the regular exhaust. So you never really see it...
