Default What do i have to do to run 400-450wph on a b16a1 engine

Hallo,

actualy i run a nearly stock b16a1 engine with stock b16 head. Only engine modification is a thiker head gasket to reduce the compression to 9.14:1

i have a garret t3 turbo with (i don't know exact) t4 internals (my tuner didn't say me the exact trim)

exhaust is at the moment a 60mm from manifold on... manifold will be a selfmade turbo manifold like the one from fullrace. Maybe in near future a plan to upgrade ma exhause system to a76mm one from manifold on.

i heared that the stock b16 bottom end can handly aprox. 300whp but what do i have to change IN ANY CASE if i want to go 400whp or 450whp?

i think rods?, pistons?, whats about sleeves? do i have to change something on the head? i.e. valve springs or valves?

my budged is not so big, so i only want to make the mods i have to do first and the rest as soon i have the money... i know that a full build engine is better for long time runs but thats not possible with my budget.
I only want to know what i have to buy to calculate if it is possible or if i have to earn some more money bevor start.

Thanks
Malte.

There should be a lot of information in the archives on this, but I'll summarize what I've read. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the word.

For that much power you are talking forged internals at the very least. Pistons and Rods are a definite. You will find people have made that kind of power on stock sleeves and forge internals, but you have to have some *****, a good fuel system, and a talented tuner.

The safe bet would be to sleeve the block, but if money is the issue, maybe you can't afford it. The question is: what if the block fails after its built with those expensive internals and you need to replace some busted pistons from banging around.

The head is more than likely ok, it's primarily stressed at high rpm's, not power. You may want to look in to getting some gsr cams because the b16a1 has the mildest vtec cams that came in a manual vtec car.

Also, you may want to ask yourself why you set that number for horsepower. Is it for bragging rights, or do you have a track time you are trying to achieve? That much power will not do much good without a decent suspension, tires, etc.

Your english isn't that bad, I feel bad that you have to read the posts on here written in english by americans. We must look like illiterate heathens
