What are the disadvantages of NOT running a dump tube?
Ive searched for topics about wastegates and dumptubes but havent found really what im looking for. Right now im not running a dump tube on my turbo set up. I was wondering what are the disadvantages of this besides higher engine temps and soot build up?

I'd say the two main disadvantages are melting ****/high underhood temps and exhaust gasses being sucked back into the turbo inlet. That means less powa.

depends on where it vents, been running with no duptube for about 7 months no problems. I have an AC setup and it vents downward so the only thing that gets dirty is the AC compressor which is nolonger hooked up.

Re: (burnitup)
Sucking in oxygenless air is the biggest downside. My girlfriends del Sol made a solid 35whp more when we got a dumptube on there and got the used air out of the turbo intake area.

Same here I originally had it pointed at the ground but now it travels to the back of the oil pan.

Re: (quicksilver1689)
Sucking in exh. gases can lower your octane and resistance to knock, increasing the chance of blowing your engine.... Definetly run a dumptube....

are you guys running an open dump tube - or is it plumbed back into the exhaust system- if so do you have it running into the downpipe before the cat? i am going to be dealing with this problem myself really soon.

Re: (j-D-m)
If you get your car tuned without a dumptube (street tune) then add a dumptube later do you have to get it retuned?

Re: (95dc2teg)
Yes get it tuned, make full use of the dumptube. You will make more power, be further away from detonation, your motor will run cooler in the combustion chambers from less exhaust gas remnants. Make sure you route your dumptube as far away from the engine bay as possible, like past the oil pan.
