When I first got my car, instead of burning out I would get massive wheel hop. It happened a lot, but now it doesn't do it anymore and my car is slower than it used to be, it doesn't even f'in scratch 2nd anymore. I think the wheelhop messed something up. Is there a specific thing I should look at/for?

I've only had little stuff snap off from where its supposed to be.

The worst I've done was when I was driving a car with a (poorly designed) equal-length manifold, the pipe that the wastegat attaches to cracked, and there was limitles boost. If I hadn't noticed it, I could have blown the motor.

 

hmm...i always thot it could lead to broken axles.

 

It can and does sometimes. I've known 2 people who have broken axles due to wheel hop.....one was a moderatly built delsol and the other was a turbo ls integra......

nah you axels should be allright, but it puts the motor mounts through a workout.

Franks delsol runs mid 14's and he snapped an axle.......like I said be carefull.

When I ran at the track about a month ago (first time going BTW), I had a terrible time with wheel hop. I made it to the sixth run and the axle snapped.

I was only running .5 bar.

 

i know a guy who blew up his tranny in a lude due to wheel hop.

 

How much are new axles if ya break them? Does anyone make stronger ones?

 

excessive vibration on ANY parts cant be good. you might as well go off roading in your honda.

yea, i was reading one of impor mags and it had ads in the back for bigger/stronger axles.

 

i have seen it break axles many times and heard it can shatter drive trains and screw up trannies.

 

Oh man...how did you get that out? I hope that was on the wheel side of things. I would imagine it would be almost impossible to get that little piece out of the tranny side if it was stuck in there.

 

Heh, the piece that broke was inside the cup that attaches to the intermediate shaft. I only live a few miles from the track so I was able to run home, grab a spare axle and get it back up and running in no time at all.

Like you described... it could have been much worse.

 

I blew up my tranny due to wheel hop. I launched at the track and didn't make it past the tree. It hopped so bad I shattered the spider gear in the diff and shot it right out the bottom of the tranny!! It was messy, fluid EVERYWHERE. OH and it also broke the tranny mount too. I should take some pics of it. It's funny now...but it wasn't when it happened.

Whats this thing called wheel hop? I don't have it. I guess my Z10 crossmember work!!

But yes wheel hop can cause problems because of the on/off power surges from your wheels getting traction on split second and lossing it the next and getting it again. Thats alot of strain!

 

it will also bust up ball joints and control arms as well

well... most of those problems were created by excessive wheel hop. if you have minor wheel hop from time to time.. it wont hurt you. i had wheel hop when i had the 17s on... i didnt snap any axles or anything. just know when to take your foot off the gas when it happens.

 

wheel hop owns
