My b17a was sent to golden eagle on monday for sleeving. What size bore are you going with? I went with the eagle rods as well, but I'm not sure which pistons - I'm leaning towards the Endyn ones.

yeah.... what is decking and o-ringing?

and how do you know what size bore to go with? what are the advantages of going with a bigger bore than stock?

a bigger bore gives you more displacement....which = torque.
torque is

how do you know what size bore ? I'm hearing 84 mm but i don't understand these numbers. also i don't get how the pistons will fit if the bore is big. do you specify a certain size piston also??

most pistons come in a few different sizes...like stock bore and slight increases over that for rebuilds(when you re-hone your cylinder walls).....then you can get oversize ones. It all depends what you want to do. Going from an 81mm to 84.5 mm piston offers quite a bit more displacement. The number is the bore (or diameter) of the piston in MM. When you bore out your sleeves, you get pistons that correctly fit in your new bore. You can also get custom sized pistons but they cost $$$

thanks for you help..so would 83mm be fine for the bore size? or is it only 81 and 84mm

also..what is decking and o-ringing?

Curious.

You said you sent your rods out to GE with your block? Do they also assemble blocks when they are done?? Do they do a good job? That would be a service I would be interested in.

i sent the block out stripped......... decking when they cut the head a little bit and cut the sleeves to match it .......... o-ringing is for motors running more than 15lbs of boost its to create a better seal b/w the block and the head

Hopefully they don't get mixed up - I had someone else pack it up and ship it for me and I forgot to include ANYTHING else with the block. Golden Eagle does have my tracking number and the address it was sent to, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Why did you decide not to bore it out a little?

actually o-ringing is when the head and block are cut with grooves to put a piece of metal in there to seal better. decking is when they slice top of the block horizontally to flaten it.

You do get two options for finishing the top of the sleeve-

1. O-ring - This if for any applications using stock head gasket,
smaller
than
83 mm, and was designed for turbo cars pumping 30 + lbs. of boost. All
it is
is a soft copper wire installed into the top of the sleeve for extra
crush of
the gasket around the combustion area!

2. Step Deck - This is our idea and it works very, very well! If you
have a
bore bigger than 83 mm on a B-series than there is not that much room
for an
o-ring! so we came up with the idea that we set the sleeve up above the
aluminum portion of the block .002" for extra crush of the head gasket!

What head gasket would I want to use on a B17 with GE sleeves bored to 84mm?

I have had trouble getting intouch with JE to confirm I am getting the right pistons. I have a part number of 185917, does that look right on the 84mm pistons.

I'm getting my block sleeved and bored to 84.5mm - will the 85mm cometic headgasket be the best bet?

Congrats, I took the semi cheap way out. I ordered JE Pistons, Eagle Rods, and a JE block guard. Oh, and some injectors too.

This is costing me so much money......I also got 16" Slipstreams yesterday. This sucks....but at the same time, it's so much fun!!!

yes. That .5mm isn't going to make much of a difference. Also, I would have your combustion chamber worked to 85mm as well. That way, if something ever happens to the bottom end, you can bore it out to 85mm and be ok. You don't ever want the head gasket hanging out in the combustion chamber.

Note - Damn language filter won't accept punch-it out. It substitutes poo poo for it. How gay

I feel your pain. I've been painstakingly building and spending large amounts of cash for a year now. It's fun, until you look at your account statements. Lesson learned - don't ever try to build the "ultimate motor"
