Welding a sump to the stock tank?

Welding a sump to the stock tank?
What are you guys doing to prevent rust from building up inside the tank after you weld a sump? Wont the high heat from welding burn the coating on the inside of the tank?

whats being used to clean the tank of any remaining gas or fumes, in order to not blow yourself up when welding on a sump onto the tank?

free easy way, route an exhaust hose from, say your buddy's vehicle, and pump exhaust gas into the tank. that works.

Gasoline has a small percentage of lubrication oils for the pump/injectors/etc. That and a full tank (keeps oxygen from touching the metal) will keep it from rusting. The problem is that after 30-50 years you may have some issues from the ethanol in fuel now (its oxygenated). But that's still WAYS away...
