Weird timing issue. Timing retarding with MSD when set NOT TO
Ok guys. To make this short and sweet...
I run a wire in Autronic SMC unit. Coil on Plug. All the settings in ecu are correct.
Running an oldschool MSD DIS-4 ignition box.
We use the Autronic to control all the timing. The MSD box is there for ignition only. We had all the MSD switches turned off for the timing retard. When we thought the power seemed down on the car, we checked timing. @ 16psi on a S372R we had the timing set at 21degrees advance at 8k rpm IIRC. When we put a timing light on the car and watched the crank pulley on a full pull, with the street ATI pulley, we saw the light reading only about 8-10degrees off the crank pulley.
I believe the pulley is marked in 1 degree increments. and has 16 marks on it from TDC. So looks like somehow the timing is being mysteriously pulled about 11-13 degrees from where it needs to be.
We have heard of the junky MSD box products pulling timing from other peoples cars as well even though that function is said to be turned off.
Anyone have any insight?

well I was having all kinds of issues with my dis4plus and at idle the car would actually spudder from the timing jumping so badly. I know have the M&W PRO 14 and have no issues at all now.

what are you using for crank/cam sensor? t1 trigger?
is the timing sync'ed correctly at idle? if you lock timing and free rev it at idle, does the timing stay where its supposed to?
ive heard of the dis4's dropping cylinders and such, but never pulling timing. i'd probably be looking more into the ecu. your kinda running both an ecu and a msd box that are notorious for being a pain in the *** on a honda. did you make your own engine harness? could be an interference issue, seen that one too many times.

Well ok, I guess I was wrong...
EACH mark on the crank pulley represents 2degrees of timing. So looks like everything is correct as far as syncing. I guess the car is just gonna have to be a little low on power for whatever reason that may be.
