I would like to go t3/t4 on a b16@8psi would it be wise if i ordered it with water cooling?or is it a waste of mo since im only want to make 8psi or so?

I am of the school that says go with water cooling.

Reasons:

1) It is just too easy to do. You remove the hoses to your throttle body and add $5 worth of hose to connect to your turbo.

2) It can't do any harm. Period. "But what if a hose bursts?" But what if your radiator hose bursts? It is rated at a lower pressure!

3) Oil was not designed as a heat transfer agent. It's a lubricant. Water-cooled turbos don't become red hot.

4) Do you really want to be forced to use a turbo timer? Have your car idling in the garage for several minutes for no good reason?

-and last but not least-

5) Most OEM turbos are water cooled. I wonder why?

3my turbo wont get red hot because im only gonna use it for about 8psi

4a turbo timer is just show and keeping it idling for a minute is only neccesary if you want to stop driving after u floored it!

5 wel not every oem is but they all use small turbos compared to the motors and they use it for 100% so they do get redhot if not watercooled!

anybody got problems with only a oil cooled turbo?

Oil is a heat transfer agent as well as a lubricant. if it didnt carry the heat away from the turbo then ure turbo would be broken real quik.

so u think your turbo wont get red hot on 8 psi huh? Really want to put some money on that? It really matters how hard and how long u drive it. I have a friend on 6 psi and after some seriously hard driving for about 10-15 minutes we pulled over and at night the manifold, downpipe and turbo were glowing red. I have also seen the same on a factory turbo Mitubishi EVO 6 make the manifold, turbo and downpipe glow. It was so bright that u could see it throught the vents of the hood!
personally I would prefer a water cooled turbo, but for the price I decided to stay with oil cooled for now. Lots of people run just oil cooled turbos and do just fine with them.

i knew factory turbos ged redhot i thought that was because the turbos are small compared to the engine size(no lag)
i didnt realize it would get red hot with 8psi!
Then i guess its a good idea to go watercooled!

Water cooled turbo's help the longevity of the turbo as compared to a turbo which is only oil cooled. It is an additional heat transferring medium. Oil still will be used.

It is an option that isn't detrimental nor a necessity.

When shopping for a turbo, I didn't choose for/against any turbo based on it having/not having a water cooled CHRA. If the turbo I purchased had one, I'd use it, if not, no sweat. The turbo I ended up buying does not have a water cooled CHRA. I haven't had a single problem from the turbo yet.

Oh yeah, I only run 8psi, and I have witnessed the glowing manifold.

well i just learned that its possible to get it red hot on only 8psi so even my knowledge isn't 100%!!!!!
its great not to be stupid but experience is even better! and you all have got more experience than me!

The air would be even hotter without coolant going through. Engine oil is always hotter than coolant during boosted conditions. The coolant will actually help draw the heat away from the turbo, thus making the air cooler

I agree that water cooling is not 100% necessary. but then you must ask how could it possibly be healty for turbo longevity for it to get red hot? in the long run, the little extra money spent on the turbo may prevent you from having to replace said turbo sooner.

So one question since i can admit I don't know, I thought that the oil was use to cool and lubricate? What do i have to do to switch over to water with my turbo?

You dont switch to water you actually run BOTH oil and water. Different lines of course...

Water Cooled - With Reservoir and Cooler will give your turbo a really long life.

About the red hot thing I daily drive an 02 civic (stock automatic) When you drive it hard for and then go take a look at the manifold its glowing red.

Same thing with my 94 Civic Coupe.

You can't see it in the daylight it really only is seen at night, if you see it in daylight you got a serious problem on your hands .

I would say either way is fine, the turbos are designed to take the heat either way. Its just your personal preference.
