Default water cooled ic VS air cooled........

A water cooled setup is very rare on h-t.
I wonder why?
It doesnt have to be expensive...
Its only a little more work...
It will kill some turbo lag...
it is a little heavier.
Does it cool less efficient???
Or does it choke more than an air to air ic???
any thoughts on this?
Would you guys use it on a rear engined car?
anybody got a water cooled setup to show?
thanks!

water to air is superior to air to air, but most of the racers on here are "sfwd" setups and that setup isnt legal. and in t/s all the components needed to be under the hood. no reservoir in the pass compartment.

it works and works well, but on a street setup, unless you pack with ice all the time, it will heat soak sooner or later on a long trip. or have to run another radiator / heat exchanger for the water in the intercooler system.

we went 12.28 in my 87 t type in 96. all we did was go to water to air intercooler and went 11.80.

i was thinking of using an extra radiator and an electric pump.
will this work pretty good or is there only an advantage if you use ice?
I assume it will make a pretty big difference in spoolup time / lag.
thanks!

The real reason I'd suspect is the SFWD deal and the fact a FMIC fits much better than any air-water core, not to mention the pump and reservoir/heat exchanger.

The other deal is price. You can make 400whp on a $100 FMIC, so why spend 2-4x as much for a space-eating, complicated solution when you can just get a precision core for less?

the reason for me will be: rear engine street track car and i don't want lag.
+ 375 dollar for a new air to water isnt more expensive then a fmic and a normal radiator isnt very expensive 2
