Default Wastegate Vac Options

I just went to Home Depot and pick up some barbed fittings that I can screw into my charge piping. I was wondering if I should A) use them, or B) just tap off the FPR.

If I should use them, should I tap them right after the intercooler or closer to the BOV?

You can use them or tap it off the FPR, it doesn't matter. As long as the wastegate sees pressure, it'll open up.

When I had my old setup, I tapped the wastegate to the turbo itself. I noticed that the wastegate opened up early.

If you get the source from the intake manifold, the wastegate will open up later vs. the compressor boost source. I also noticed the PSI reading went up by around 1 PSI ...

I would just tap off of the brake booster (or the FPR if thats what you really want for whatever reason). Much easier that way.

Ok, I just read storied of spiking and what not if youre tapped off the IM.

I guess Ill just tap off the FPR then.

"Spiking" when getting a source after the intercooler is probably referring to the WG seeing boost after the pressure loss that occurs in the IC.

Like mentioned above, if I run my WG source to the compressor, Ill see about 5.5PSI. If I run it to anywhere after the FPR or brake booster, Ill see what the spring is rated to, about 7PSI. With a good manifold and the right size wastegate, you shouldnt spike...in fact, to get what the spring is rated to when not using a BC, you'll want it after the IC on the brake booster or FPR, which is considered "tapped at the IM" since the WG is seeing the same pressure the manifold is seeing.

I tapped the FPR, runs so much better. Less lag, more boost.

Ohh, and newgsrdriver, please check your PM and get back to me if you dont mind, regarding the first question.

Where did you have it tapped before, the comp housing?

I would think taping off the compressor housing would be LESS lag as its 1/5 of the line distance, not to mention none of the piping and intercooler.
