Wastegate Suggestions
Im looking for advice on placement of my TiAL 38mm wastegate. I found very little pictures of installed wastegates when I searched for 'wastegate'. Im using the Revhard manifold on a GSR.
Mounting the wastegate straight on the manifold like this doesnt clear the hood. Without the barb fitting on top, the hood closes so I need 2" more clearance and I dont think I can get that much from notching the hood. The hood is resting on the fitting on top of the wastegate here and I had a good 2" gap, enough to take a picture through...
Using the elbo doesnt really help the situation. Now it clears the hood but the exhaust points right at the manifold and the turbo below.
Here you can see the axis better. The exhaust shoots right on to the manifold and theres really no space to fab up a dumbtube straight down because the manifold is right below.
Can't flip it around and put it towards the driver side either. Wont clear the P/S.
I would really like to know what the hell Revhard was thinking when they designed this elbo solution. It solves one problem and creates 2 more.
I would really like to see pictures of wastegates installed with log style manifolds to get some ideas. TIA

Re: Wastegate Suggestions (silverEH2)
I don't know what kind of tools you have, but I would cut off the lower flang and re-weld it with the dump tub facing the PS, but adjust so that you clear. Makes me question getting that Mani for my teg. I have the same PS mounts and clearance you have.

Re: Wastegate Suggestions (XSIintegra)
I could do that.
Im considering 3 options:
1.) Reweld the flange so that it fits over on the driver side
2.) Extend the elbo so that the wastegate is pushed over towards the passenger side more.
3.) Hacking up my hood. May fit ok and will be the optimal position for the wastegate to fight off boost creep.

Re: Wastegate Suggestions (Muckman)
I'm running into the same exact problem with my setup, except I have inlinepro manifold. What I am in the process of doing is taking the the top flange of the elbow (like you have it pointing towards passenger side) and having the flange cut and rotated 45 degrees and welded back. That way it will point at a downward angle towards the front of the car and I should be able to fabricate a dumptube to route down.

Hacking your hood would be the cheap way out and would also look like crap. I would remount the flang because you don't want to have to bother routing the exhaust around the compressor or compressor piping and you have a nice open area leading to your exhaust on the driver side.

well, notching that may not be that bad, but one of my concerns for the hood has been heat. wouldn't take much to cook and discolor that paint.

Re: Wastegate Suggestions (Muckman)
I'm sure it does. I've come across a couple other post recently from cooked paint on hoods. My fear right now on my teg is that I'm going to melt the radiator with out a good heat wrap on it. Moving the flang would be a little time consuming but not very hard and would look a lot better in the end.

i have that manifold and w/g with problem. Why do you have the nipple on top anyways? I have mine hooked up to the side/bottom one with no problem. My boost controller (hallman) controls boost with no problem. Im gonna get a pic of it tonight.

He is using boost controller...need to use that top port.

Re: Wastegate Suggestions (cinq)
The funniest part about all of this is that i think muckman is serious. Thank you BG boost for bringing some intelligence to this thread. That 90' is not a dump tube, it is a neck, just like it says on the packing list. It is made to turn the wastegate towards the passanger. It was not intended to have a dump tube at all with tial. If you really want a dumptube, put a turbosmart on like it was intended or else turn the turbo around and have a new downpipe made. If you do that though, you will have major issues with the fan + lose AC. I suggest using it how it was intended and turn the wastegate sideways instead of vertically up. If you are worried about getting your manifold dirty, then buy a new wastegate. That is all you can do unless you want to fabricate all new parts, but don't blame Rev Hard. Everyone else that installed it seemed to figure it out just fine.

that top port is for an EBC..if you are using a MBC the side port is fine. I would reweld the flange to make it work.

Of course Im serious. I had a serious question about the best way to mount this. I was trying out different combinations with the elbo. I know its not supposed to be a dump tube, thats obvious. Stop trying to make me out as a newbie.
I dont care what wastegate you use, using the elbo is still going to blow the exhaust right at the manifold and turbo making a dumptube nearly impossible.
Thank you for those who posted pictures and provided me with assistance.
