Default Wastegate questions

quick and easy questions for everyone

do alot of people run an external wastegate with an internally gated 14b ? also , around how many psi does rthe 14b make stock ? if its under 11 i wont worry about it but if it boost more than ill have to go with the motorola 3 bar map , i have . i know the stock map is good until 11.6-12 lbs , just curious . oh yeah , z6 bottom , y8 head is the engine if anyone cares . yeah 11lbs is a lot for stock but cant live life in fear (read: i have a backup engine just in case )

usually people wont convert over from an internal wastegate to an external.

That turbo is pretty small...

From what I've gathered through searching, stock wastegate is anywhere from 8-10 lbs.

Is it from an eclipse/ talon?

yeah its small but for the 14b and stock bov im paying 100.00 and that puts me at having an almost complete turbo kit minus clutch and oil lines for around 125.00 yeah its a 1g eclipse turbo . from what ive searched the gate leaks boost but the guyim getting it from says it didnt and i can trust him but later on it might and i just want to be prepared .

also, for a lot of the mitsubishi turbos, its possible to get upgrades for the wastegate's and everything.

Theres a guy at SlowBoy Racing.. I think his name is chris... He's a really helpful and cool guy. You could talk to him abiout upgrading the wastegate later.

Hope that helps.

you would mount the external gate to the turbo manifold... you need a wastegate port.

so youre using like a regular exhaust manifold?

I dont think that's gonna work... Buy a cheap log manifold.

instead of welding the flapper hole shut, weld a section of pipe there, then put an external wastegate flange on the end of the pipe and mount the wastegate. You can pretty much run it where ever you want in the engine bay too
