Default Walbro 255 high pressure hair dryer

I just put one of these in a few days ago. I've heard that sometimes they can be noisy, but this thing is like listening to a hair dryer from a distance. I can even hear the sound outside the car. The sound isn't that bad, but it seems to have gotten louder since the weather is a little warmer and if I use anything in the car (windows, sunroof, turn signal especially), the hair dryer tone will change like it's not getting enough juice or something. Is this normal?

Yeah, those Walbro pumps are whiney *** biatches...I was glad to get rid of mine. For the price though, they really can't be beat. They are cheap and they flow mad fuel.

Is that fuel pump the same as what you get in the Jackson racing upgrade?

mine's annoying to. I think im gonna stick a square foot of dynamat over the fuel pump area and see if that might help stop the noise from comin out.

I got the 255 Walbro High Pressure one and I can't hear it at all. Now I'm wondering if there's someting wrong with mine....

Maybe the amount of noise depends on the car it's being used on. I have a Civic Si. Integras probably have better sound insulation, but that's just a guess. Today the weather is cooler and it's not as noisy. My main question was...Is it normal for the sound to fluctuate when other electrical items are in use, such as the turn signal. When the turn signal is on the sound changes in pitch with the clicking. It's pretty annoying! BTW, I didn't mean to change anyone's mind about buying this pump. It's really not that bad and is tough to hear while driving, if at all. For $99 shipped, it's a bargain!

when i had my rear seats out the damn thing is LOUD. Gets scarey loud when you have little gas in the car as well.

Now that I have my rear seat back on and a full tank of gas the car doesn't sound "as" loud....it sounds like a bad ground on a speaker system if you've ever heard one which isn't too bad..

89 civic si, no rear interior, VERY loud with no noise supression, but the open dp drowns it out at anything above idle.

My Walbro is nice an quiet in my GSR. No one even notices it.... compared to all the comments about the in-line pump I had.

I've been running the 255 for quite some time now and have no issues with the noise. What little I do hear sounds exotic

When you installed it, did you ziptie/attach it in any way to the mount for the pump? I'm not 100% sure how it works with other Honda's, but with my crx I disregarded the instruction to ziptie it to the holder, and just let the upper fuel tube & lower rubber cushion hold it in. I could see how if it was attached to the L-arm in the tank it could vibrate and resonate throughout the entire fuel tank very loudly given the right conditions.

Just a thought,

Ryan P.

Walbro makes a "255 high pressure" and a "255". The one that comes with the JR type R kit is the "255". Not sure about the upgrade kit.
