Default VTEC problem in boost

Last night we were tuning my buddies f22 boost setup. When we enabled vtec it hit but threw a CEL code (21) and only lasted the rest of that gear and not the others he says. Anyone else have this problem or can help him get this fixed?? Any useful advice is greatly appreciated...

We're using Crome for tuning. His setup is on a stock block/head on 9psi at the moment. 550cc injectors, log manifold with a 57trim T3/T4 turbo

he says if he pulls from first gear the CEL wont show until he hits third gear sumtimes. everytime he does a second gear pull, after vtec engages it throws the code and it doesnt engage in 4th and 5th

Why don't you start with the CEL 21 first before moving onto something?

Is the vtec oil pressure switch enabled on the rom (it checks to see how much oil pressure is going to the vtec solenoid)? Oil pressure gauge on the car? Hows the wiring?

try to disable the VTEC pressure sensor (code 22 actually) and also connect pin A4 and D6 together

i dont think you can disable the vtec oil pressure switch on Crome. He doesnt have his oil pressure gauge installed yet (personal decision). currently we're tryin to get the solenoid bolts out and clean the screen and he said he is goin to check the ohms in the power goin to the solenoid.

yea you are right about the option in crome. Check the screen and have him invest in oil pressure gauge. Don't want to kill the engine or the turbo because of oil pressure issues. Maybe the wiring is bad in some spot and whenever the engine shifts it breaks open.

by connecting this two together,is the ecu suppose to bypass
it? meaning the ecu would think pressure is good and therefore
engage vtec?

courios to learn,as this can help figure or test it someway....

Yes thats exactly why. and yes, u can disable VTEC pressure code 22 with crome(i know u r throw n code 21, but one can lead to the other). i have disabled it many a times already

Just place a jumper wire between pin A4 and D6

my friend had the same problem on the dyno last week. The ecu was sending voltage to the vtec sol. but the problem ended up being mechancial. Pulled the sol. off and the screen was full of metal( i know, not good). We tried cleaning it out but that did not help. Put a good used one on there and we were back in business. Hope you figure it out bro.

yea guyz its my car. i checked all the wire everything is good. when the car was n/a it never did this. like my buddy was saying when i hit vtec it engages then the check engine light comes on and vtec cuts off. i been spending alot of money on this car and i dont want to be buyin a whole lot of extra **** if i dont need it. im going to try and take the solenoid off and give it a good cleaning and also ohm the solenoid and see what it reads.

Yea tell me about it... That's why the punching back is going up this spring. I can't rememeber how many times a month I have to go and start punching the door to my garage. Key thing is not to give up, you are smarter then a car.

Are you using a converted ecu?

Say a P06 or P05 that was converted to vtec?

If so, sounds like a wrong transistor inside the ecu.

Just bypass the oil switch in the engine bay.

is there a possibilty that the oil pressure drops when the turbo spools in boost, in addition to vtec engaging? he has no oil pressure gauge hooked up so its not obvious or nething...
