Default to vtec or not to vtec....

ok this is the situation, ive made up my mind and im planning on joining the darkside, but i still have a few questions. i have an 88 crx si and i plan on getting a dragIII kit or maybe the RH st-2 kit. but my question is , would you throw a b16 in the car or an ls, given that both motors would be built. ive done a search but there really isnt anything comparing these both. what would be the pros and cons of each. i know the ls would yield more torque and the b16 would rev higher etc....but i need some input from people who have these setups first hand. thanks a lot.

Are there any more stock B18A/B's around? Dayum.... I haven't seen one that wasn't turned into a LS/VTEC in a long time! I'm thinkin' that if you could find one that this swap would be much easier, cheaper, and more torque than the B16A setup!

Vtec+Boost doesn't mean it's better! Would go w/out the Vtec personally, just my .02

What's wrong with it? How much boost are you running?

typeR head and then you get to rebuild your turbo to new specs for top end and your set!

but i still think in a debate between the B16a and the B18B id choose B18B a million times

thanks for the replies guys...and for the b18b not having top end.....its a matter of building it i.e. block girdle, new bearings etc...with a good valve train etc... and you'll be up there with the rest of em'

Please whatever you do have it tuned right because I am so sick and tired of hearing folks who just slap on turbos and end up destroying their motor because they havent had it tuned properly! And then they have nerve enough to blame it on the manufacturer or the person they bought it from!

just get a turbo with bigger specs if you want an insane topend. Vtec is an extra 20 hp, that is not going to give you a "sick top end".

And you need some kind of fuel controller or cam gears if you want to tune. The only thing you could do to an integra with just a turbo kit is set back the timing a couple degrees..

i mean look at the hp of a LS to a LS/vtec the hp numbers oh those are already 40+hp and with the higher hp base, you'll get a ever bigger gain when you turbo it.

whats not gonna be tuned right? theres nothing to tune when u bolt on a regular turbo kit.. you can change ignition timing and thats about it.. The only reason a car would run like **** after u bolt on a turbo kit is if a part in the kit was defective or the install was done wrong.. and therefore u should blame the manufactuer or the installer..

When i said 20 hp from vtec, i meant 20 hp more off a b16a then a b18b. But the loss of torque is gonna be like 50+ if you choose the si engine....stick with LS

I see, but I think we have been comparing a LS vs a LS/Vtec.
