Default VTEC Crossover

where should your vtec crossover point be? under 5000 rpm or over 5000 rpm for more midrange power?

If you take it on the dyno you do one pull with VTEC set at like 9000rpm (so it never engages) and one pull with VTEC set at 2000RPM (so it's always engaged. Where ever you start making more power (i don't know it's HP or torque that you look at...maybe both ) with the VTEC engaged is where you set the VTEC at minus 100-200 rpm.

Do this and set vtec where the torque curve crosses.

so that is how you get more midrange?

That is the rpm at which the higher lift and longer duration profile makes the same amount of power as without. Rpm's below that point you would be at a loss and rpms beyond are beneficial. We are not choosing power at a specific point, rather we are dictated this point by the physics of the engine where we can make a combined power curve with the largest area underneath.

qoutei don't know it's HP or torque that you look at...maybe both

you really dont have a clue do you? ever seen a dyno where @ any rpm the torque rises and the hp drops???
