Vortech charger on civic info needed please
Any of you guys running vortech chargers?
Was wondering how to make more boost? I'm running the HO with after cooler on a 99-00 civic si, and don't even know what the standard psi boost is
And any maintance required like oil ectr.?
How does the after cooler work?
Thanks

Re: Vortech
well, the VORTECH was never that popular compared to Oscar Jackson's setup due to cost, design and the simplicity of installation of the JRSC. The Vortech was usually about 30% more expensive when they came out with the system in 2002, compared to the JRSC from 1998 and beyond. They used Vortech and NOVI systems that were interchangeable, (if you knew what to look for), but maintenance was rather a PITA because of lack of parts availability, and the high cost of replacement parts. When they first came out they were already over $4K, and though it used a centrifugal charger, similar to a turbo, it didn't allow a lot of Comforts that that JRSC did, like A/C, Power steering,etc.. and it was a tight squeeze
Kudos for you to try and start a discussion on it, it will be few and far between, but I wish you well.. What a trip down memory lane..

Re: Vortech
thats true... Turbo is the way to go if u want high hp numbers... BUT the fact that my kit is so rare makes up for all the other bull ****. And I still have A/C and Power steering.

Re: Vortech
Any questions other than just how to make more boost?
Boost levels depends on 2 things with the vortech. Size of the crank pulley and size of the vortech pulley. Bigger the crank pulley the more boost you will make. CRV crank pulley is the largest Oem pulley available. You can also get a smaller vortech push to make more boost. Smaller the vortech pulley the more boost you can make. With the smallest vortech pulley and CRV crank pulley you should be at aprox 15psi. Anything more than that and youll need a custom pulley to run a wider belt to avoid slippage.
Btw I'm writing this from my phone so ignore the typos.
As for the power cooler it allows water to run through the cooler as air passes through this cooling the air as it enters the engine. Basically its their version of an air 2 water intercooler. It's another way to cool the charge this making more power and keeping intake air temps down. I had the kit but never ended up having it tuned....decided to go for a full build but the quality of the kit was awesome. I was going to be shooting for 350whp on my setup but as mentioned never ran it.

Don't forget size of the compressor wheel in centrifugal system..that makes an even bigger difference than just crank pulley.

If you put the crv pulley on it can you still use the original belt?

Re: Vortech
3.12'. Yes that is true however that does not mean they are sold out of what was left in stock. I'd still call vortech or other dealers and see if the pulley is availible. The important part being the charger and driveshaft can still be rebuilt by vortech so no worrys there. As for the belt you'll need a different belt for sure, all you need to do is cut some string and wrap it around the pulleys, then measure it and buy a 4 rib belt in that length from autozone or oreilys. Gator makes a good belt. Post up results when your finished up!

Re: Vortech
Yah you need different pulley's/belt to make more boost. That being said, judging by what you have said, you should be able to make more power without changing the boost pressure by doing a few other mods:
Open up you exhaust more, go 3" all the way from a good header.
Step up to larger injectors.
maybe add water/meth injection.
Take back to dyno for more tuning.
Just these things with your current 15 psi should give you a considerable gain in hp.
Also I didn't see if your on a stock internals motor or not?
If you are then going past the 336 your already making is a bad idea anyway unless you do built / forged internals, you will pop the motor....

Re: Vortech
Made 336 hp and 226 tq
That is a very safe tune and we still maxed out my 550cc injectors
More dyno time and bigger injectors and exhaust will push the numbers up
But ill prob built my head so I can turn more rpms before i get it retuned
