Default vortec super charger question

hey guys im sorry to ask this.. i dont want to get points docked.. i seriously dont know so im asking.. which would be "easier on the engine" as far as wear and tear.. a full race turbo kit or a vortec sc??? im looking to boost my 94 si w/gsr..

im worried about reliability.. any input would be highly appreciated

thanks

both setups should be reliable, as long as the engin is in good condition, quality parts are used all around, and most importantly the tune is spot on.

with that said... go turbo, you'll be happier, just my opinion.

We're a dealer for Vortech/Paxton and I'd say stick with a turbo kit on a 4 cyl.

Horsepower is what is going to break things so just be conservative and don't go overboard with the boost.

Superchargers need horsepower to make horsepower so with 7psi on a supercharger kit and 7 psi on a turbo kit you'll make more hp with a turbo kit.

I ran a VSC on my 00 Si for well over 60k miles. The splines on the input shaft stripped just before it fell out of warranty. Vortech rebuilt the unit at no charge and have since changed the input shaft to a flex joint instead of splines.

I put another 20k miles on it, then sucked up some water through the SC and broke 2 rods.

I would consider the VSC a reliable kit.

If I had it to do all over again I definitely would gone with a Full-Race turbo kit. The turbo can be just as reliable with proper tuning and maintenance.

just remember, boost is boost, belt or exhaust driven, on a bad tune the same thing happens. BUT on a turbo setup, there is a possibility illbeit a small one, if the setup os correct, for an over boost situation. on a blower car, it is harder to make more boost unless you step the pulley.

but to answer the wear and tear question, on a bad tune, both are just as bad.
