Valve stem seals - should i replace ?
I'm pretty sure my valve stem seals are going bad. The car is smoking a lil at idle and a lil when i let off the gas. I know oil lowers the octane rating of the gas so......should i change the seals, or should i just leave them alone. I've worked on my car way too much this past summer and i'm really not in the mood to do anything else to it. Are valve stem seals a big issue when you're boosted?

Bad turbo seals will do this also, just something to check. If it is valve seals and it doesn't bother you I wouldn't worry about it. It's far more work to replace than some people feel it's worth.

Well the turbo is brand spankin new, i took it out and looked in the charge pipes and the downpipe and there was no oil residue so i ruled the turbo seals out. I was just worried that the oil would change my A/F in boost but since it only happens at high vaccum i don't see why it would matter much. I feel ya on the "some ppl think it's too much work for what it worth" kind of thing. i am burning so little oil that i can't track it on the dipstick, it's not like it's a gallon a week or something.
Thanks for the reply's guys. Is there anyone else who can chime in?
