Valve spring compressor.............
Could you guys post a link for finding a good price on one that fits the honda dohc head. I've seen a couple on ebay, and different internet stores, but not sure if they will fit into the small space. Any info would be appreciated, thanks

the only problem with the ebay one is that you have to unbolt it and move it over each valve spring. The other one I have just uses a bar that you bolt on for leverage, exactly like the snap on one, but way cheaper. Oh and I had emailed the Ebay seller before, and he told me that supposably the blue valve spring compressor ONLY works on vtec heads, and not the LS...
just my $.02

Re: Valve spring compressor............. (Phase Change Racing)
guys all you need is a large c-clamp..? go buy one at lowes or home depot..find a old socket that you dont mind throwing away and notch it out and go have it welded on to the stationary part of the clamp. Now Goodson makes a badass pneumatic one for the big domestic guys but when I was at the school we made one for our little hondas...its cheap and very easy

Re: (mrbsponge)
have you taken valve springs off without taking the head off??? Its pretty hard cosidering the fact that you have to break the press between the retainer and the keepers. I hope your not crashing your valve into your piston to break the press...

Re: (ludesleep)
they stole my idea...
i just use the regular cheapo valve spring compressor, then i took a piece of pipe and cut a large chunk out for the side. looks just like the silver piece in this kit. it works great and i dont have to worry about bolting and unbolting anything..

i have the knock off snap-on set that i got from ebay......it was less than half the price of the snap-on set. i dont see the real deal working better, so unless you've got a thing against knock off tools, go for it.

I do it all the time to degree cams, just put the leakdown tester on the cylinder that I am doing, 100 PSI keeps my valves from moving.
P.S. - and I use the Blue-Point/Snap-On compressor that I picked up used for $75.

Oh, if this is pertaining to taking off the springs w/the head ON, then I dunno. But the c clamp thing worked with the head off as many of u can imagine. But here's my professional setup of the c clamp method when the head is off! The blue is the extended stocket or pipe, just get a strong one cuz you'll have to dremel a hole to get the keepers. I soldered it to the gray threaded tube thing. the bottom of the clamp secures the valve. That's about it.
Not sure if u guys can see it. It's small. I don't know how to make it bigger. But u guys get the picture!

Re: (zerovandez)
this is proably the easiest tool to use. I can take all the valves in and out and put new seals in in like 30 min.

Re: (90crxlst)
where i work we have a nice pnematic compressor, i dont know if this will work on honda's but when i take apart v8's we have a little tool like a beefy socket but with out the hex, and it had a magnet in side of it, you hold it on the retainer firmly and hit it with a hammer and it compresses the spring and the magnet catches the keepers

yep done plenty of them with the head on, i just re did my own set, if you dont have a leakdown fitting or air, all you need is some 1/4 inch nylon rop, about 3 feet of it. put the piston on BDC and feed in the rope, slowly bring it up close to TDC, and youre done. the rope holds the valves place, and is soft enought to not hurt the piston or valves. also if you have decent valve seals and guides, your valve more than likely will not move much.
very old trick
