Default valve adjustments working loose?

b20 turbo 7psi runs so good. but i notice a tapping in the head so i pulled the valve cover and check the valve adjustments. 4 of them where loose so i went to loosen the nut and it was loose. so i did a full valve adjustment and drove around all weekend everything was fine. then on the way home a got on it hard and it started tapping again. adjusted them again and it lasted a month. it started tapping just the other day i readjusted and havent drove it yet. each time its only been 1 or 2 valves after the first time. the cam doesnt seem to be wearing down or anything. what would cause this?

its tough to get the locking nuts tight without the special tool otherwise its to much rpm or poor oiling

We've seen the B20 rocker nuts come loose all the time in a boosted stock B20 head. You're going to have to keep pulling the valve cover and fixing it. We never found a solution, we torqued the nuts to spec every time. This happened in Kris's CRX while he was running low 11's, high 10's.

If there isnt proper oiling or its being reved to high they come loose. if its on stock valve springs they come loose quicker for whatever reason.

This happened to me on my gsr head to, and I had the blue point valve tool. Tighten the **** out of It and they didnt come loose again . I found out on the dyno they were loose and one nut actually fell off luckly it went straight tp the pan I had to pull it off to get it out.

what is your redline? b20's have really weak valvesprings, which could be causing your rockers to come loose.

I think i have it set at 6850rpms. I know a solution but its just switching to my b16 head. I like the power the b20 putting down and didn't want to change out oil pumps and water pumps belts and be worried about oil leaks by the head...... but i have thought about putting a b16 oil pump on a stock b20. it might help with oil. I had a nut come off and while i tried to dig it out of the head it fell in one of the oil passages. i believe its on the splash pan cause i drained the oil and couldnt find it so i just put another on and drove it. this is just a fun weekend car so if it blows it blows.

you shouldn't have to change the oil pump. 96+ b series all have the same pump.

o ok, did not know that one. my lsvtec i had that was n/a turned 9000rpms with pro 1 cams, tit retainers and skunk2 springs and i never had a problem with the valve adjustments backing off. just did a valve adjustment every 3months for the first year just to make sure everything was good.

I really dont understand why people say b20's arent good with boost this is the first turbo car i have ever did and it runs soo good. Although im only running 7 psi. at the track it put down a 13.4 at 103 with no traction in 1&2 and third was slipping very lightly. I just street tuned it myself and it runs a little rich but im playing it safe.

its only on the exhaust side that works loose but i just remembered my feeler gauges only go to .008 that might be part of the problem.
