vafc hack or hondata?
yea yea, i know its a stupid question, but isn't hondata for hardcore tuners with crazy engine work? i'm not planning on boost too much and getting new pistons, rods, valves, springs, machine work etc is gunna cost a fortune and i don't think i can afford that. Is the vafc good enough or something that's better to be overlooked? thanx

hondata is easy and not for hardcore tuners. I'd suggest you find someone that can tune it for you but overall its cheap, simple and realiable.

I would get the Hondata if I were you. If you look at the prices for both options, the Hondata is only a little more and you get a lot more for your money with the Hondata. The Hondata 2b is only $545. When it was all said and done here is what I paid for the Hondata:
Hondata 2b....: $545
Datalogging...: $200
Tuning...........: $150 (2 hours of tuning with a $50 rebate from Podium Performance)
Total.............: $895 <- Not too bad for a standalone system.

Re: vafc hack or hondata? (MyWhiteCivic)
ic, thanx for the info. do you think i should upgrade the ignition even if i plan on running mild boost? i was thinking maybe an msd blaster 2 external coil, disti cap, and some wire to run w/ the hondata 2b. btw, i've heard about you ARTURBO, seems like you're the turbo guru around here in honda-tech. any suggestions that can help this noob out? also, where's podium performance? web link? thanx

No question about it. Between the two, Hondata all the way The AFC hack is beneficial to those who already have the parts, don't want to spend the $$$ on a standalone or want something other than an pump/FMU setup. I fall into all three. That's why I'm using AEM on my Civic and the hack on my CRX

Re: vafc hack or hondata? (Ugly assed civic)
with a vafc hack you can adjust it when ever you want by yourself....with hondata you have to bring it somewhere and have somone reburnyour chip fo ryou to change any settings......i dont have the money to go get dyno tuning all the time i ilike to do it myself and didnt want to spend 1000$ on standalone whne i spent $200 on a brand new vafc from a friend of mine and thats all i need! and it works great!

Hacks and bandaids will work for a while, but all you are doing is tricking the ecu into running a litle different, which has many draw backs. I recently went hondata and pulled all my JR electronics...trying to sell them, but in what i spent on those I could have had the hondata the whole time.
With the JR stuff the best i could do was 210 hp, now my best run was 237hp with only hondata and 440cc injectors. and my wiring harness is sooo much cleaner now.
Hacks are just what they sound like....backwards ways of doing things which usually get you in trouble down the line. Do it right the first time and you won't have any regrets.

Re: vafc hack or hondata? (TurboInteg95)
but if you're obdII, don't you have to get an obdI ecu and the obdII->obdI harness?
how much will that run?

For less than $100 you can purchase the SMC and your fueling needs should be set with a mild boost setup (less than 14psi).
