Default Vacuum manifold question

Question: How does everyone attach their vacuum manifolds to the firewall... screws or two sided tape??

I'm having a hard time finding stainless screws that will thread into the firewall... I guess I will have to look harder.

i dunno about your car, but on my del sol right by the vin # on the firewall. there is 2 threaded holes that have plugs over them. they both nearly line up perfectly with the holes on my golden eagle vacuum manifold. just gotta take a dremel and bore out the hole a bit and you could bolt it right to those two holes. check next time you have a chance.

Yeah, I have the threaded holes too, but my manifold is slightly smaller than the GE. I might be able to get one in there, but I'd have to drill out the manifold to accept a bolt that big.

if they're smaller, maybe you could make some type of adapter to get it to bolt up.

I drilled a couple of holes in that lip where your weather stripping is at, put the bolts through and put the weather stripping back over the bolt heads. Here's what she looks like...

I just zip-tied it to my intake manifold with a piece of cut-up silicon hose between them so it doesn't rattle.

oh ya, i dont even consider those an option either. I just dont like seeing all the extra hose everywhere. especially the huge one you guys feed the manifolds with. personal preference, they all work fine im sure.

Is this one from McMaster Carr? That's where I got mine from. Do the screws you put in it hold it tight to the firewall? The screws I put in mine thread in a little bit, but stop threading and leave the manifold loose. I think I'm going to try and find some self tapping screws.

here's mine... I just used drywall screws the same way someone above did. I predrilled some small holes through the firewall first, though.

Well the ones I used were coated with something... so no. But I'm not really worried about it anyways heh

I guess they would take a while to rust anyways... and when they start, just replace them. I'm going to attempt this method and post a pic of my results... I have to address my oil leak at the return fitting first.

Yes, mcmaster carr, just like dustin's I believe. My screws went right through the holes and threaded into firewall. Just don't over tighten or you'll strip the thin metal in the firewall.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with self tappers on the thin firewall metal, they strip the metal easier - this is from experience.

I think I'm going to order and make a McMaster.com DIY manifold. Just one question, I can figure out what all the parts are except this one:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by dennis &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
6 44555K131 Brass Double-Barbed Tube Fitting, Barbed X Npt Male For 1/4" Tube Id, 1/8" Npt
</TD></TR></TABLE>

Can you explain which part this is and why I need 6 of them? Thanks!

It's the 1/8" NPT hose barbs for your accessory's vac/boost source (wastegate, blow off valve, etc...). You probably don't need 6, but I just ordered extra in case I ever needed them. Order as many as you need, just make sure you have enough of the 1/8" hex plugs to fill the holes you're not using.
