a screen is better then nothing, a good filter is better then a screen. ive been running a screen now for 1700 miles but i would much rather be using a filter.. I havent yet had the oppurtunity to meet the majic filter that fits my turbo.

Unfortunately I can't really run just a screen living in a damn desert.

If you have the money, get the filter. IF you dont have the money, get the filter.

Assuming its for daily driving, use a filter. With the money you spent on your turbo, you don't wanna **** it up cuz u were too cheap to get a filter.

i've run both. the screen actually takes away some power. some supra guys i know did some dyno runs w/ or without. they said it interfered with the flow. they actaully made more power w/ a filter. i'd go with a filter......you can take it out at the track and go bare.

What is the better filter to use? What about that Metal mesh filter make by Blitz (I think)?

that actually makes sense; the filter disrupts the flow but over a larger area, and then the intake pipe allows time for the flow to smooth out again. A screen over the turbo inlet would make a very small-area turbulent entry to the turbo (and draw hot air from right next to the exhaust manifold) and I can definitely see it making marginally less power.

In every application you should always use an air filter whenever possible. Unless you have a clearance problem, it will always be the safer bet. Some people may opt for the mesh screen as opposed to the air filter to maybe free up some restriction as well as a few ponies, but in the long run you subject the turbo to larger microns of dirt and rock particles smaller than what the naked eye can see but large enough to damage the internals such as the seals and the turbine wheel. These same particles can not only damage your turbo but your engine as well. I should mention that oil changes will be more frequent due to camtamination, which in turn will shorten the viscosity life of your oil, which like water, is the life support of your entire engine. So you have to ask yourself, is saving a $30-100 on filter system worth losing few thousand dollars on rebuilding your engine?

This may sound weird, but Ive heard using womens pantyhose works better than screens if you cant find a filter that fits. good air flow and traps more dirt and dust than screens, but filters are the better way to go , like a foam mushroom filter.

I find I get more power from a K&N Cone filter rather than from an HKS foam mushroom filter. I've tried both. Seems like the K&N is less restrictive than the HKS ones.

K&N rulez!! I have an AEM CAI, and that K&N is going to be put to good use on the end of my turbo inlet!!!

Foam filters suck. I have no idea why companies still make them. Companies like Edelbrock made them for carbed engines and proved they were good for three things:

1. Making less power than a K&N
2. Filtering worse than a K&N
3. Catching on fire when the engine backfires and shoots flames out the top of the carb!
