I've heard you have to shave here and there to make sure the LS crank will clear it. I also hear that a company named z10 makes one that is made out of better metal and already has clearances for LS crank.

Again, this is what "I heard"

I was sorta gonna try this when I blew up my GSR, I was gonna put a LS crank in, but decided not to be the first one that I know of to try.

OMG!!!! Im in love!!! Screw z10

So Im guessing you would have to install the rods onto the crank before you bolt the main caps and that sexy girdle down?

Just for knowledge sake...What are the major benefits of having the custom girdle compaired to the GSR girdle? Is the custom piece really necessary for a street a
application?
But to answer the above question-It has been done. Alot of people says its not necessary. I just look at it as extra insurance. Try the search function. A very elaborate post was made in the FI forum regarding the purpose and proper installment of the girdle.

I do not post much but I had to answer this one(screw z10?)I work to hard to sit back and not respond. We offer the 3main Block girlde that requires no machining for the LS block. We also have a 5 main block girdle that we have had since last year, it works with our patent pending external oil pump system. As for the the 5 main it is unnessary for under 600 HP. We have sold 100s and 100s of the 3 main girdles without 1 coming back broken. Our girdles are used by AEBS, ENDYN, DRT , and many others I do not have time to list. The stock 3 main girdle from an gsr is not a bad option, you will have to machine the center to have it fit the ls center main cap and could work well on mild street applications.

If putting the gurdle in the LS block, would it require you to line bore it then after it was installed? how much do you think the average cost of having a machinist do this would be?

So you say no shaving. . . Boomslang says a small amount of milling is neccessary. . .who's right?

i wouoldn't recommend it but you can take the chance if you like, the clearances on honda motors are very tight and after taking many of them apart i'm a firm believer that a specific part fits a specific job, just my two cents
