upgrade springs without valves?
hey guys I had a quick question I have a stock ls head with a built bottom end on my turbo integra. I wanted to see if i can get a little more revs out of it instead of stopping at 7grand. I would like to rev to 8000 or 8200 somewhere in that area. Trying to get a longer power band. Was wondering if I could just upgrade the springs and leave the stock valves in or would I have to do both for my rpm target.

Re: upgrade springs without valves?
That is exactly what I am doing on my GSR head. I am only upgrading the valve springs and retainers and reusing the stock valves. There is nothing wrong with the stock valves.

Would i have to upgrade my retainers too? because a vtec head revs to 8200 from the factory without TI retainers.

If the cylinder head doesn't have enough CFM flow to it, like an LS, "revving" higher won't necessarily net you more power. Look at the turbocharger and the rest of the setup that you're using now before deciding to go "higher".
Your stock valves will be fine.
Your stock valves will be fine.

Thanks Shodan! I have a hy35, drag-gen 3 IC, 2.5 charge pipes, blox Intake mani, stock TB. I would just rather be able to have more revs especially because I do not build boost till later in my rpms. So if I just upgraded my springs I would be okay? No need for retainers?

You will need springs and retainers. Stock valves are fine but you will need cams as well. Just raving an engine higher doesn't make more power you have to accompany that with the right modifications. Cams for sure and maybe an intake manifold unless your on a p75 intake then should be ok

yeah, I have a manifold, i know i should do cams etc. but me reving my motor higher if I'm still making power is what I'm getting at i guess. I'm trying to go 400 so I will be building a decent amount of boost and rather not be at full boost for 2 grand haha my HY35 starts spooling at like 3600 and i build 15psi around 4200 if i remember right. Havent drove it for about 9 months now. I do not have the money for cams and everything right now but just wanted to rev a little higher than 7 grand. unless 7500 7800 is okay, which i think i remember seeing it somewhere 7500 is really the highest.
