Default Type R vs. GSR crank pulley very confused!!

OK, Everyone claims that the GSR crank pulley is larger then the Type R. Nobody ever actually mentions a diameter which is disturbing in itself, but anyway is this definitely true??

I have a 97 JDM Type R engine and I just bought a used GSR pulley from a local New Jersey guy on this forum. When I measure them they have exactly the same Alternator pulley diameter. The spot for the AC is slightly larger on my Type R, and the power steering (don't care) is way larger on the Type R.

The exact sizes are (taken from the leading edge of the pulley, NOT where the inner ribs are).....

97 JDM Type R:
Alternator: 5 - 5/8"
AC: 5 - 5/8"
Power steering: 4 - 2/8"

GSR (supposedly, don't know the year)
Alternator: 5 - 5/8"
AC: 5 - 1/8"
Power steering: 3 - 5/8"

Here are some pics .....

My Type R:

The GSR:

Both together:

Is this correct?? can someone tell me if my Type R pulley is incorrect, or is my GSR pulley incorrect. Again, there seems to be way too much "talk" about pulley diameter around here but no data. It would be great if someone can post some comparison measurements. Right now I don't know which pulley is what it is supposed to be.

Thanks

u might want to see the weight on both bc that could ruin ur oil pump and motor

would make some sense consider r = higher revving motor.. Larger diameter pulley would slow down the speed of A/S and power steering pump accordingly.

The wieght isn't going to be what "kills" an oil pump. That has more or less to do with the harmonic dampening properties of each pulley. Given that they are both OEM pieces, this would be the very last thing I would be worried about.

Well, I'm running a TODA oil pump which should help me out a little anyway. But like Hybrid said, they're both OEM so I'm not worried.

That's not the point however, the reason I posted this thread is because I'm running a LHT JRSC and I'm trying to hit 10 PSI. John at LHT said I should go with a Endyn stepper, 3.8 blower pulley, and GSR crank pulley. I bought all 3 pulley and now I'm trying to figure out why I wasted my money on the GSR crank when the alternator portion is the same diameter as my Type R crank pulley.

I'm trying to figure out if.....

1) My type R pulley really is a "Type R" crank pulley
2) Maybe the GSR pulley I was sold is not in fact a "GSR" crank pulley
3) Lastly, maybe the whole "GSR pulley is larger than a Type R pulley" is a farse.

Some one please provide measurements to clear this up (or photos)

Thanks again!!

maybe get part numbers from acura? like a one for a 00 GSR & one for a 00 TYPE R. if theses arent up by the middle of the week ill get them. but i say they are the same.

larger diameter on the crank pulley makes it spin faster not slower. It's the opposite for the accessory. Smaller diameter pulley on the accessory itself will make it spin faster.

guys.. I know all this. I need someone to confrim the actual sizes. If someone has a GSR pulley can they just go measure it??

Thanks

I searched on here and only found out the same info you have. Some people said they are the same, some said it was smaller, and some said it was smaller but only by fractions and not seriously noticable. Also, fwiw, i saw most were running CRV pulleys. I don't know why, you probably already know the answer though having sifted through pages of confusion.

It's late now, but maybe tomorrow I can jack it up and measure mine to confirm that you have a type R pulley unless you find the definitive answer by then. I'll just grab the caliper and take a few quick measurements.

How's the build?

Came across this in the type R forum tonight. Has some insightful info and people who might know your answer.
