Turbos and the Police...
most of the folks in here are running non-street legal t3/t4 kits...actually im not sure about legality in other states, but here in CA its a no-no
also many people are running cat-less...
i was just wondering how you guys go about dealing with the police if you get pulled over ? re: getting your hood popped and having them look for cats... any input or stories would be appreciated...

Hmm, I think you get in big trouble. I try not to go places that would get my hood popped or anything... our cops are not like that up here.
But if they find no cat.. then the law says they /cannot/ lower the fine so I think it's about a $2k fine.
I'm thinking of wiring up my electric hood lock again.. so that if I get asked to pop the hood... it physically cannot be popped... And my car is low enough that it's hard to verify whether there is a cat on it or not.
My next idea was to weld the heat shield for my cat around my test pipe... so it would at least /look/ like I had a cat I mean, I'd have to take it to the smog ref to verify and if so.. I'd have a cat on the car by then hehe

what is this electronic hood lock you have ?
i have also heard of people unhooking the cable from the hood latch lever in the cabin so that nothing happens when you pull it....just say " i dunno its broken ??? " to the cop...its not like the cop is gonna try to fix it.

yikes! cops poppin hoods!? I haven't heard of that happening around here, unless they have any reason to think your motor is stolen... i don't even think that happens often. With the cat thing--- cops, usually its state troopers. They actually do a knock test -- where they give a silght knock on the cat or suspected cat. they're listening for a hollow sound which would = no cat . I'd wrap my test pipe and have the heat sheilds welding on.. maybe throw in some heat resistive filling in there too... just an idea

none of that around my way. Not even any smog regs. Hence I run cat free and turbo choices are unlimited as the law don't control it.

Re: Turbos and the Police... (Hybrid)
You guys should move to Texas, they'll let anything on the roads wth out police intervention. I even asked some guys at a local emissons testing shop and they said they pass turbo'd Hondas all the time. They even suggested that I lean out my fuel before I go, so it will pass the snffer or somethng like that. Can't get any better than that.

Guess i am lucky...no emissions. I just run a openn downpipe with a 2 1/2'' cherry bomb muffler to cut some of the noise down. It is loud as ****, but the hp gain is crazy, or at least how much more responsive the turbo is. Cops around here are into picking kids up for there cool windshield sprayer lights...i have nothing to worry about. I do feel sorry for you guys in cali...must suck having to deal with all that hassle with carb stuff!

Re: Turbos and the Police... (boosted hybrid)
I know for a fact in (certain parts of )San Antonio the only emissions testing they do is check the gas cap tightens on the gas cap. Thats about it, no sniffer. Brand new 2002 inspection sticker on the car.

Hey, easton PA (or anyone in PA)
ANY PA residents!!
I will be moving to Pittsburgh/beaver area in afew weeks and I am bringing my turbo CRX with. Any idea how I am going to get plates on this baby? I know you have mechanical inspection, what does that entail? Do you have it registered as a street rod?
send me an e-mail with the 411.

Thanks,
Randy
