why not just a y8 head?? why mix obd 1 with obd 2??

You both have a good point but I would have to agree with this one.
The z6 head flows much better than the y8 but having to fix all the emissions **** would be a pain in the ***. I would stick with the mini-me (y7 block with a y8 head) only because they y8 is known for having a shitty oil pump and spun rod bearings. You learn these things when you want to build one......

I take it that you have dealt with this before?

The y8 is better becuase you can used your current dizzy. The z6 has a funky dizzy that makes it harder to used other d-series dizzys i hear. I have a z6 and a y8 head myself, for a new project car i bought. And i am thinking about using the y8 just becuase of this.

Re: Turboin' (egcoupe94)
I've done some research before and found that a y7 block with a z6 head and a y8 intake manifold would be good. Sorry I cant explain right now why its good though bcuz Im f*ckin drunk and I dont know why Im replying to this damn post this damn f*ckin late.

we're not doubting its abilities, but doing all the emissions work that an obd 2 ecu has rather than obd 1 ecu...it would just be a PITA...work smarter, not harder

Re: Turboin' (LilMrTinnie)
i would jsut install a d16z6 complete engine, use a y8 tranny and convert to obd1 and use a p28 ecu, then go from there, that alone will make your car much faster, plus IMO i think obd1 is easier to work with (much easier) and the z6 engine is stronger than the y8 and the y7/y8 mini...
z6 engine, y8 tranny, obd1 conversion (p28) and then run uberdata

Re: Turboin' (akad3mikz)
to bad your not legally allowed to swap an engine into your car that is older than the vehicle, has to be same year or newer so you should keep the y8 block put on a z6 head and then of course convert everything to obd1

Re: Turboin' (egcoupe94)
lol great comments, but one question.
If I put a y8 on a y7 block doesn't that mean I have to drill the block for VTEC?

umm...drill what?? the y8 and y7 head are really similar, just have 3 wires to wire up vtec, "PUT DOWN THE DRILL, AND STEP AWAY FROM THE BLOCK"...lol

Re: Turboin' (civiccpedx)
i turbo my y7/y8 minime and my buddy has a turbo y7. were both pushing 6-7 psi right now, and to be honest, the vtec doesnt do ****. granted, I probably has a few more hp than him bcuz of the vtec and the higher flow head, but it both feels the same. just my 2 cents

Re: Turboin' (EgRedSi)
not too steal the thread or anything but just wondering what people think about boosting the d15b. im still saving to get and build a gsr for boost so i just wanna boost the engine i have in my hatch for the time being

Re: Turboin' (JA_EH94)
If took out the time to correctly build the hatch for a good amount of power your GSR would almost be done. Use the hatch as a dailey driver and leave it stock (in case it get's stolen). I wouldn't boost that motor though, bolt ons and you should be fine.

Re: Turboin' (EgRedSi)
well i wasnt going to build it, i was going to leave it stock and just boost it and then when it blows i would swap in the gsr and transfer all the turbo parts that can go with the gsr and buy a bigger turbo, manifold, injectors... basically evrything that needs to be changed. plus my parents arent letting me swap the engine till this one blows so ill just give it untill summer time till it blows
