Default turbo wheel question

I called majestic turbo for some advice on what applications would work better for my car, and basically he said that changing the cold side's wheel would help things out and also not create anymore lag (depending on what sizes i have in there already). is this true? no more lag even if i get a bigger wheel?

the guyknew his stuff, and i got caught up in his turbo lingo, and he was pretty confident that i should only get what he said i should get, hehe. he didn't like the idea of a straight t4 setup. but anyway, cool guys.

If it is very heavy, then the mass will affect the lag time, but a size bigger wouldn't be as bad as a housing size bigger in the turbine side. What did he reccomend? I got a turbo from them, their reccomended size....

can't say for sure since i don't know the specs on my turbo......i want something w/ more top end and faster spool ups, hehe doesn't everyone?

do you know what specs you are running?

I have a T3/T4e... T3 stage 3 with a .63? housing (and a spare .45 housing for tests later). T4e 46 trim. I still have a t3/t4b from the drag kit, I want to know if it is worth putting a bearing in the t4b turbo.....any opinions? The t4b housing is a bit smaller than the t4e, the e is about 2 mm from the ex manifold which isn't too good......... I want to find out more on my b turbo and see if it will be better with a bearing, or just stick with the e.......

I bought my T3/T04E turbo from Robert at Majestic. I talked to Kevin too. Their first recommendation was tiny. Stage 2 wheel and .48 A/R exhaust side. I went with their recommendation. After alot of talk with many turbo gurus who thought this was too small. I switched to a .63 A/R and kept all else like Majestic suggested. Majestic swapped it out for free, and they said if I wasn't happy to call them and I can try another size. I never even tried the .48 on my car.

My boost starts at about 2500 and is at fulll boost at 3 grand or so. The dsm guys around here always comment on how huge my turbo is compared to their own.

Alright, so how did you get your turbo to spool to full boost at 3000 rpm? I have the basic *** drag kit and hit full at 4000, before and after the new turbo....... What am I doing wrong? Is the turbine wheel that different to boost 1000rpm sooner?

I've got an MBC, and it is solid at @7psi. I did notice that it would pull hard until the mbc opens then the boost seems to stay .something psi lower.... Maybe its my imagination. I guess the turbine wheels make a big difference. So with a stage 2, is the flow decreased from a stage 3?

haha i'm hella lost. hm......better research some more!

i'm assuming that the wheel sizing you guys are saying are the bigger the # the bigger the wheel. And the bigger the wheel, the more lag? and the bigger the wheel the more potential for hp at a given psi level?

are there any wheels i should definetly be avoiding?

are there any sites that can teach me in more depth about turbo trims?

When I was researching what turbo to get, the general consensus was that a stage 2 was perfect for a street/strip car at low boost. When chosing a turbo, just keep in mind that it is for a very low boost level(<10 psi). There are so many graphs to look at and variations that can be done, it's mind numbing at first. MarkC is a good guy to hit up for info.

The .46 is my favorite wheel for fast spool-up street use. The .50 provides some insane top-end.

Stage2 turbine spools up faster than Stage3. What I have leanred is that Hondas are not happy with .48 A/R turbine sides. Especially the high-reving VTEC engines. Chokes them too much on the top-end.

A Stage2/.63 A/R with a T04E .46 will give superb spool-up and great top-end. Change the Stage2 to a Stage3 and you gain more top-end at the expense of spool-up. Go one size bigger on the compressor to a .50 and experience insane top-end, but compromised spool-up.

The Lude's will always be able to spool-up the bigger sized turbos easier. Those bastards.

majestic(robert) talked me into upping to a stage three, .60 wheel and .63 a/r. The wheel was also clipped. This is a t3/t04e that came with a drag kit for an ITR. It had a .54 which I did not like too much. My spool isn't great but top end power is nice. I had it up to about 12-13psi(w/mbc) on my stock motor and it was very powerful. I am also using a low-comp head gasket.
